Job Description
Transportation - Mechanic
The bus mechanic will assist the educational process by ensuring all transportation equipment
and school buses are safe, reliable and efficient.
Qualifications
The bus mechanic should have a sincere desire to enhance the educational environment of
children. He/She must have the ability to work with students, faculty, and the general public in a
friendly diplomatic manner is essential. This individual must have a general knowledge of
mechanical and electrical parts as demonstrated through education/training or hands on
experience as well as the ability and physically able to repair it.

The bus mechanic will report directly to the lead mechanic, Director or Transportation or the
Director of Transportation's designee.
Duties
The bus mechanic will:
1. Work closely with the lead mechanic, Director of Transportation and all other transportation
employees to maintain a smooth functioning transportation department.
2. Possess or obtain within three months of hire the appropriate license to operate a school
bus.
3. Possess or obtain within three months of hire the Missouri Inspector Permit license to
perform bus bus inspections.
4. Perform annual inspection of all buses within 60 days of the first day of school.
5. Within the first year of employment obtain the ASE School Bus Technician Certification.
6. Maintain a clean and orderly shop and inspection station.
7. Follow established procedures when purchasing parts and supplies.
8. Assist with fueling buses as needed.
9. Perform any other duties assigned by the lead mechanic, Director of Transportation,
Director of Transportation's designee or the Executive Director of Operations.
