Job description

Position Overview

A respected healthcare facility in Hampton, VA is seeking an experienced Locum Tenens Anesthesiologist (MD/DO) to provide high‑quality anesthesia services across a diverse surgical caseload.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver safe, effective anesthesia care for a wide range of surgical procedures (general, ortho, GI, urology, OB, and more depending on facility).
  • Conduct pre‑operative evaluations and develop individualized anesthesia plans.
  • Administer general, regional, and monitored anesthesia care (MAC).
  • Monitor patients throughout the perioperative process and manage post‑anesthesia recovery.
  • Collaborate closely with CRNAs, surgeons, and perioperative staff to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and comply with facility protocols and regulatory standards.
Assignment Details
  • Schedule: Monday-Friday
  • Shifts: 8, 10, or 12-hour shifts
  • Weekend and weekday beeper call shifts, 1:4 rotation
  • Cases: General, epidural, spinal, regional, obstetrical, neurosurgical, complex vascular, complex ortho, vent management, and central lines
  • 8 ORs
  • Care Team Model: 4 MDs & 11 CRNAs
  • Will supervise 3 CRNAs
  • Anesthesia techs turn over ORs
  • EMR: Epic
  • Must be board-certified
  • Paid travel & expenses
Qualifications
  • MD or DO with board certification or board eligibility in Anesthesiology
  • Active Virginia medical license (or ability to obtain)
  • Current DEA registration
  • Strong clinical judgment and ability to work independently
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Prior experience with regional anesthesia preferred but not required
