POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE
New York University Tandon School of Engineering
NYU Tandon School of Engineering is seeking to hire one or more Postdoctoral Associates to work in the area of machine learning and data analytics for smart grids in Prof. Yuzhang Lin's research group at NYU Tandon School of Engineering.
New York University (NYU) is one of the top private universities in the United States, and the Tandon School of Engineering, located in Brooklyn, NY, is deeply committed to excellence in teaching and learning. Tandon fosters student and faculty innovation and entrepreneurship that make a difference in the world. Prof. Yuzhang Lin's research group in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering conducts cutting-edge research in modeling, situation awareness, and cyber-physical resilience of smart power grids with machine learning applications.
Expectations
Candidates will be responsible for:
  • Conducting advanced research in machine learning and data analytics for power system operation and planning;
  • Support externally funded projects by developing algorithms and software, performing validation and demonstration using real-world datasets, and delivering project milestones and deliverables;
  • Publish research outcomes in top-tier journals and conferences, prepare project reports and presentations, and assist in grant proposal development;
  • Supervise and mentor graduate students in their research activities.

Successful candidates will have a demonstrated background in the following areas, as exemplified by a strong publication record:
  • Modeling, monitoring, control, and simulation of power systems;
  • Innovation and application of deep learning in power systems;
  • Strong academic writing, oral communication, and team collaboration skills.

In addition, previous experience in any of the following areas is a plus but not required:
  • Cyber-physical power systems
  • Detection and estimation theory
  • Optimization algorithms
  • Federated learning
  • Multimodal machine learning
  • Large language models
  • Power system visualization and software development

Salary range
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for these positions will be $62,500 - $67,500 depending on the candidate's experience and qualifications
Qualifications
Candidates should have a PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related field by the start date of the position. We welcome applicants with recent PhDs and individuals seeking additional postdoctoral training. Candidates will be required to present eligibility to work in the United States.
