Faculty - Department of Surgery/Division of Vascular Surgery (Open Rank/Track)

The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Wexner Medical Center seek a PhD or MD/PhD researcher to join the Department of Surgery, Division of Vascular Surgery. Academic rank and track commensurate with academic record and experience.

Position Overview

The Division of Vascular Diseases and Surgery within Department of Surgery at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is recruiting an open rank research faculty member at the PhD level. Funded researchers with backgrounds in basic, clinical, or decision science related to vascular disease will be considered. Candidates are expected to have an established research program. This opportunity will take advantage of collaborative relationships within the Division of Vascular Diseases & Surgery, the Department of Surgery, the Heart and Vascular Center, the Davis Heart and Lung Institute, and the University to develop translational multidisciplinary projects.

Duties and Responsibilities

· Conceptualizes, plans, designs, implements and conducts research studies; develops and writes grant proposals to seek and obtain extramural funding to support research program; obtains and maintains NIH R01 or equivalent funding;

· Writes and publishes research in high quality peer reviewed, scientific journals; attends and makes presentations of research at national and international scientific conferences; develops national and international scholarly reputation;

· Instructs and mentors junior scientists, doctoral and postdoctoral students, medical students, residents and fellow trainees; participates in department, college and university committees and initiatives.

Requirements

· PhD or MD/PhD in an applicable field

· Postdoctoral research experience in basic science research

· Proven ability to write scientific reports and publish in scientific, peer-reviewed journals preferred

· Current, active extramural grant funding (equivalent to NIH R01)

· Academic experience a plus

· Qualify for academic appointment at the Assistant, Associate or Professor level – Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with previous training and experience

Department/Division Overview

The Department of Surgery, led by Dr. Timothy Pawlik, boasts a broad array of clinical, research and educational opportunities. The department is home to multiple R01 funded researchers, several training grants, and with over $15.5M in NIH funding, was ranked #11 in the Blue Ridge Rankings among departments of surgery nationally. Our investigators collectively occupy over 25,000 square feet of laboratory space within and around the medical center campus.

The Division of Vascular Diseases and Surgery, led by Matt Corriere, specializes in the comprehensive care of diseases of the arteries, veins and lymphatic system. Each year, our division has more than 8,800 outpatient visits and performs more than 1,800 endovascular cases and major open vascular surgeries. We specialize in complete care for any vascular condition, from a patient's initial visit to diagnostic testing, interventional or minimally invasive endovascular treatments (such as stenting and angioplasty), open surgical treatments (such as bypass surgery), and, most importantly, ongoing, lifelong post-treatment care. We've earned a procedure rating of "high performing" for abdominal aortic aneurysm repair from U.S. News and World Report.
