Job description

Library Aide - Part Time LHS

The Library Aide will support the department in carrying out responsibilities related to servicing and supporting student learning.

Reports to: CTE Department Chair

Employee Status: Educational Support Professional - Indirect Paraprofessional

ESP Bargaining Union

Calendar: 178 student attendance days, 9:00am - 2:00pm

Qualifications: Education and experience equivalent to high school graduation

Illinois Paraprofessional license required

Professional/Personal Characteristics:

  • Previous experience in an educational setting preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills and time management skills
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently under varying deadlines
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to identify sensitive information and maintain confidentiality
  • Proficient with Google G-Suite, office and phone equipment
  • Ability to work as part of an educational team to support the needs of individual or groups of students

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist the teacher librarians
  • Partner and assist in creating an equal and respectful learning environment while reinforcing expectations of the library
  • Perform clerical routines connected with the ordering and receipt of new materials, including processing the new acquisitions into the computer data file
  • Oversee the issue and discharge of books and other materials, including the preparation and dispatch of overdue notices
  • Provide support and troubleshoot library information technologies
  • Shelve and organize books
  • Maintain attendance and circulation desks
  • Monitor and maintain proper student behavior and communicate with the librarian and/or administration as necessary
  • Provide guidance and assistance for students and staff for material selection
  • Support all tasks as assigned by supervisor
