JOB SUMMARY

The Library Associate 2 is the Cybrarium's front line role and is responsible for the overall customer service focus of the Library. Under direction from management, Library Associate 2 performs a variety of moderately complex technical and paraprofessional duties in support of various sections and functions of the Cybrarium. his position reports to the Assistant Director. This position spends the majority of their time on a service desk assisting patrons, or in circulation related duties.

The Cybrarium is open seven days a week. Weekend and evening hours are required for this position.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES

An individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.  

  • Provides customer service by welcoming patrons, issuing library cards, checking out materials, and managing patron accounts 
  • Assists patrons with locating materials or basic information needs, using computers, or explaining procedures (checking out, logging onto the Internet, making copies, etc.)
  • Assists patrons with virtual reality (VR) services: booking reservations, aiding new users, providing technical support, and cleaning and maintaining equipment 
  • Checks in and processes materials as necessary
  • Accepts and processes fines, fees, or other payments
  • Provides information regarding programs, events, conference rooms, etc.
  • Shelves library materials and pulls library materials to fill patron requests
  • Inform patrons of rules of conduct as necessary, and enforce those rules when appropriate, and escalate patron conduct or safety issues to appropriate management
  • May supervise library volunteers and interns in the absence of senior staff
  • May assist with library programming and outreach efforts
  • Responsible for completing Opening and Closing tasks on circulation checklists
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS

An individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education,

training and/or work experience required.  

  • H.S. Diploma or GED required
  • Two years of public library experience preferred
  • Basic knowledge of technology, library systems and databases, and STEM services preferred
  • Ability to work a regular schedule that includes a combination of days, evenings, and weekends
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to frequently move from place to place within the location; file and retrieve books and other items on high shelves. 
  • Lift/push up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds. of heavy boxes, books, and equipment; work in confined spaces; walk; bend; stoop; reach; and climb.
