Job description

New Lenox Public Library is looking for two creative, enthusiastic, and technology-minded team players to join the Studio team. Opportunities abound in these hands-on positions that facilitate patron-focused services and programs to our growing community. Our Studio space welcomes over 1,000 visitors per month! If you enjoy collaboration and are passionate about helping others, this position is for you.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associates degree from accredited institution or LTA Certificate or relevant vocational technical training
  • Experience or formal training in at least one of the Art/Design, Computers/IT, Education, or other STEAM areas
  • Experience working in a public library, makerspace, or digital media lab preferred
  • Strong experience with at least one of the following: maker technology, digital creative processes, or personal media archiving

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to teach complicated topics to different skill levels
  • Ability to patiently and respectfully instruct and guide users of all skill levels, backgrounds, and ages
  • Comfortable with learning and adapting quickly to emerging technology
  • Willingness to troubleshoot technology
  • Knowledge of related online resources offered, such as Craftsy and LinkedIn Learning preferred

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for supporting the successful day-to-day operation of The Studio
  • Provides training on technology available in The Studio and DML, including individual instruction, group classes, and events
  • Assists library patrons of all ages online and in person by finding materials, answering questions, providing technical support and facilitating the use of the Studio
  • Creating and assisting with Studio decorations and crafts
  • Creates, hosts, and assists with programs in the Studio
  • Provides tours of the Studio as requested

REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL EMPLOYEES
  • Ensures that library spaces are a clean, safe, and welcoming space for all patrons
  • Demonstrates creativity, initiative, and ability to work independently to achieve personal, department, library focused goals
  • Comfortable with technology, which may include e-readers, ILS systems, databases, Canva and Google/Microsoft Suites
  • Supports Library-wide initiatives, programming and outreach
  • Participates in continuing education and training, including bi-annual Staff Days
  • Maintains an atmosphere conducive to connecting, creating, and exploring
  • Supports onboarding experience for new staff members
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with Staff and Patrons
  • Keeps up to date with best practices by researching and attending workshops, trainings and relevant Continued Education opportunities
  • Displays high level of confidentiality in regards to sensitive information
  • Cross trains in all departments of the Library to serve as a backup for Library Staff
  • Access to transportation and ability to travel
  • Performs other duties as assigned
WHAT WE OFFER
  • Salary Range: $20.98 - $26.23 per hour (midpoint); internal equity is used in determining the rate of pay

These part-time, non-exempt positions are scheduled for 20 hours per week and includes working a mixture of days, nights, and weekends. The selected candidates will report to the Studio Manager.
