Job description

Job Summary

Responsible in helping with the organization and shelving the collection, assisting and leading youth programs, creating and maintaining displays, promote reading to the community and assisting with other library activities as needed. Also collects fines; oversees and call 1421s for overdue materials; assists patrons with questions for books (projects) and problems with computers. Assists with the Theater Complex programming and maintenance. Employee is required to perform all similar or related duties. During the summer months the employee is required to support the activities of the Summer Reading Program. Reports to Assistant Library Director.

Essential Job Functions

  • Maintain regular and prompt attendance; physically present to work.
  • Performs after hours work as required (nights and weekends)
  • Assist with emergency response as needed by city hall and local EOC.
  • Supports the activities of the SRP.
  • Decorates and maintains library space, especially within the SRP season.
  • Assists patrons with questions.
  • Files applications.
  • Cash handling to collect fines and fees.
  • Assist with monthly reports.
  • Assists with the Theater Complex programming and maintenance.
  • Maintains library area clean and tidy.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

  • Must have High School diploma, or equivalent (GED)
  • One (1) year of related work experience to perform such job.
  • Applicant must pass pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen at City's expense.
  • Applicant must have current valid Class "C" Driver's License and be insurable.
  • Must successfully complete Emergency Management and Incident Command Training within first three months of hire date.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred.

  • Knowledge of spreadsheet applications with experience at collecting money and accounting for same.
  • Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication.
  • Multi-task.
  • Ability to work with children and their parents/guardian.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working.
