Job Description/Duties
Provide face-to-face customer service to library patrons. Daily tasks may include:
  • loaning/returning books and equipment
  • opening and/or closing the library
  • navigating the SUNY Cortland website and myRedDragon to find information
  • answering telephones
  • answering directional questions
  • shelving books
  • troubleshoot WEPA print stations
  • instructing customers in use of library equipment

Days/Hours Needed
Hours of coverage coincide with Memorial Library's hours of operation, which are subject to change. Based on the current hours of operation, coverage is required for the following:
  • Monday: 9-11am, 11am-1pm, 9pm-12am (2 openings)
  • Tuesday: 11am-1pm (2 openings), 1-3pm, 9pm-12am
  • Wednesday: 9-11am, 9pm-12am
  • Thursday: 11am-1pm (2 openings), 9pm-12am
  • Friday: 9-11am, 11am-1pm
  • Saturday: 3-6pm

These are recurring weekly shifts for the remainder of the semester.
Study Days and Finals Week require extended hours.

Required Qualifications
  • Must be a current SUNY Cortland student
  • Reliability and punctuality
  • Friendly, patience, eagerness to provide excellent customer service
  • Willingness to learn and assist customers with new technologies
  • Good written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience using myRedDragon
  • Experience working in a library or similar setting
  • Experience providing customer service

Physical Demands
Ability to push and pull loaded book trucks and to lift 20 pounds
Special Conditions for Eligibility
Must be willing to work weekends and late nights.
