Dance Instructor K–8 | Culturally Diverse Arts Educator

Woodmont STEAM Academy is seeking a dynamic and culturally responsive Dance Instructor to serve students in grades K–8. This educator will design and deliver a comprehensive dance program that reflects a wide range of cultural traditions and movement styles, while supporting the school’s STEAM focus through creativity, expression, and performance.

The ideal candidate brings the ability to expose students to diverse dance forms—from contemporary and hip-hop to global and liturgical movement—creating an inclusive environment where all students can see themselves reflected and celebrated through the arts.

Core Responsibilities
  • Provide developmentally appropriate dance instruction for elementary and middle school students (K–8)

  • Design lessons that incorporate a variety of dance styles, including but not limited to:

    • Contemporary and modern

    • Hip-hop and street styles

    • African, Caribbean, and Latin dance

    • Liturgical and expressive movement

  • Build choreography and performances that reflect multiple cultures and traditions

  • Prepare students for school showcases, community events, and performances

  • Integrate dance with cross-curricular connections (history, culture, music, wellness, and creativity within STEAM)

  • Foster a positive, structured classroom environment aligned with school expectations

  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of both elementary and middle school learners

  • Support extracurricular opportunities such as dance teams, step teams, or performance groups

  • Collaborate with staff to contribute to a vibrant school culture

Preferred Experience & Cultural Competencies
  • Demonstrated experience teaching or performing across multiple cultural dance traditions

  • Ability to authentically incorporate culturally rooted movement styles into instruction

  • Experience with step, rhythmic movement, or performance traditions connected to community-based organizations and service-oriented cultural groups

  • Strong understanding of how dance connects to identity, history, and community expression

  • Ability to create an inclusive environment that reflects and respects all student backgroundS

  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Dance, Performing Arts, Education, or related field (preferred)

  • Teaching certification (or eligibility) preferred

  • Experience teaching youth (elementary and/or middle school)

  • Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills

  • Ability to design engaging, standards-aligned lessons across grade levels

Impact Goal

To cultivate creativity, discipline, cultural awareness, and confidence in students through a diverse and inclusive dance program that reflects the global community and enriches the school’s STEAM mission.
