Job Summary:
This position is responsible for the preparation of burial sites prior to interment and landscaping these sites following interment in accordance with established standards as directed. This position is also responsible for other cemetery grounds maintenance duties and assisting with setting up and taking down seasonal displays.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Prepares burial plots and mausoleum entombments as directed, including sod removal, assistance with grave excavation (carefully observing for potential hazards such as utility or water lines), backhoe operation when required, and the erection and dismantling of tents.
  • Conducts post-interment restoration of grave sites, including vault installation, soil compaction, sod replacement, and irrigation. Operates heavy equipment, as needed, for soil transport and irrigation.
  • Assists with the creation and placement of temporary grave markers and the interment of cremated remains.
  • Assists with the creation and placement of temporary grave markers and the interment of cremated remains.
  • Performs general cemetery grounds maintenance, including but not limited to lawn mowing, trimming, shrubbery maintenance, floral removal, irrigation system upkeep, grave leveling, and winter snow clearance.
  • Assists with the installation and removal of seasonal decorations, including Christmas lights and Memorial Flag displays. Assist in making cemetery floral placements when necessary.
  • Follows safety policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

Requirements
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of groundskeeping and landscaping practices and procedures.
  • Ability to work efficiently and thoroughly.
  • Ability to follow directions.
  • Basic understanding of how to care for various types of lawns, greenery, and plants.
  • Ability to operate various types of power equipment including lawn mowers, trimmers, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers, and other landscaping equipment.
  • Ability to use hand tools required for landscaping.
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete assignments.
  • Ability to drive safely.

Education and Experience:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods standing, walking, stretching, bending, climbing ladders, kneeling, and pulling.
  • Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and up to 25 pounds of force regularly.
  • Must be physically able to operate power equipment.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Exposure to machine noise, fumes, and oil.

Salary Description
$18.00 - $22.00/hour
