Phlebotomist, Laboratory, Weekends, PRN
Job Summary/Purpose
The Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting blood specimens from patients of all age groups in a safe, accurate, and timely manner. Operating within a hospital environment, the Phlebotomist ensures proper identification, labeling, and handling of specimens to support quality diagnostic testing and patient care.
Essential Key Job Responsibilities
· Performs venipuncture and capillary blood collection following hospital and laboratory protocols
· Positively identifies patients using two patient identifiers and confirms test orders
· Prepares specimens for transport to the laboratory and ensures proper labeling and documentation
· Delivers excellent customer service and demonstrates compassion, especially in high-stress or urgent care situations
· Follows infection control, safety, and universal precautions guidelines
· Maintains phlebotomy supplies and ensures clean, organized, and safe collection areas
· Assists with specimen processing, and data entry
· Participates in call coverage, weekend, and holiday rotations
· Interacts professionally with patients, nurses, physicians, and other hospital staff
· Adheres to HIPAA and patient confidentiality regulations
· Responds promptly to lab-related emergencies or STAT draw requests
Role Minimum Qualifications
Required Education
· High School Diploma or equivalent
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

- Professional, compassionate demeanor with patients of all ages and backgrounds
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
Preferred Qualifications
- 6 months to 1 year of phlebotomy experience in a hospital or acute care setting
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) and laboratory information systems (LIS)
- BLS
