We are Making Sustainability Happen.We are seeking a skilled and experiencedAir Quality Engineer or Scientist to join our expanding Air Quality Permitting and Compliance Team in Houston, Texas.This full-time position offers a dynamic range of responsibilities, requiring adaptability and a broad skill set. It presents an exciting opportunity to contribute technical expertise to complex air quality permitting projects across industries such as oil & gas, mining, chemical, energy, and other industrial sectors across the United States. We are committed to supporting your professional growth through a rewarding career development path within our global, fast-growing environmental consulting organization.**Technical Experience Required:*** Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Atmospheric Science, Chemistry, or a closely related scientific field* Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in air quality consulting or related disciplines* Strong understanding of State and Federal air quality regulations, including Title V, PSD, GHG and Emissions Inventory Reporting, NSPS, and NESHAP* Proven experience supporting clients in maintaining compliance with applicable air quality programs and regulatory requirements* Ability to thrive in a fast-paced consulting environment, managing multiple projects, meeting deadlines, and delivering high-quality work* Excellent analytical, organizational, and multitasking abilities* Demonstrated experience solving environmental challenges, calculating air emissions, and interpreting complex regulations* Strong technical writing skills, with a track record of producing comprehensive technical reports* Experience engaging with State and Federal regulatory agencies* Effective time management across multiple project tasks* Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)* Possess a valid driver’s license* Willingness to travel by air and car, including occasional overnight trips**Preferred Personal Attributes and Traits:*** Logical and methodical approach to problem solving* Strong attention to detail* Willingness and ability to learn new skills and to mentor others* Capable of working independently and collaboratively, including leading teams when needed* Solid understanding of project budgets and deadlines* Self-motivated with minimal need for oversight on routine tasks* Proactive in identifying and taking on work assignments* Excellent communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills to build and maintain strong relationships with colleagues, clients, and subcontractors**Key Responsibilities:*** Adhere to SLR and client-specific health, safety, and environmental policies including compliance with drug and alcohol requirements* Support air quality permitting, compliance reporting, and field data collection activities under the guidance of a Principal or Senior Project Manager* Collaborate with project team members to develop, review, and de- liver permit applications and technical reports* Mentor junior staff and foster skill development within the team* Learn and apply compliance reporting software tools effectively* Provide technical expertise on regulatory frameworks, engineering approaches and investigative method relevant to project work.* Assist clients in implementing and managing air quality compliance programs* Prepare proposals and present technical solutions to a diverse client base* Build and maintain client relationships through consistent delivery of high-quality technical work* Participate in short-duration travel for client meetings and project-related activities**SLR Benefits:*** Competitive total compensation package including medical, dental, orthodontia, vision, FSA/HSA, generous PTO accrual, 10 paid holidays, 401(k) retirement account with company matching program, company paid life insurance, short & long term disability insurance, and employee assistance program.* Full-time, permanent role with opportunities for professional growth and advancement**Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) are at the core of who we are and want to be.** SLR is proud to be an Equal Employment Opportunity / Affirmative Action Employer.
