Job description

DEPARTMENT:
Culinary Arts Department

STATUS AND SCHEDULE:
Temporary, works as needed up to 19 hours per week; non-benefit eligible. 
 

FLSA:
Hourly, Non-Exempt

CLOSING DATE:

SUMMARY: 
The Assistant supports FVCC's Culinary Arts program as needed for various FVCC events by performing kitchen and serving-related duties, such as kitchen clean-up, dishwashing, serving guests, and clearing dining tables. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Washes dishes, glassware, flatware, pots, or pans, using automatic dishwashers or by hand.
  • Places clean dishes, utensils, and cooking equipment in storage areas.
  • Maintains kitchen work areas, equipment, or utensils in clean and orderly condition.
  • Empties trash and replaces trash can liners.
  • Sweeps and scrubs floors.
  • Serves meals and provides water service to guests.
  • Clears dining tables.
  • Maintains professional ethics and confidentiality of students in accordance with applicable laws and policies.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
  • Reports to the Culinary Arts Program Director or Designee.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision. 
  • Demonstrated communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability and willingness to serve as a representative of the College by interacting appropriately with the community.
  • Creates and maintains a collaborative and collegial environment with colleagues and maintains effective working relationships.
  • Ability to work within policies and procedures of FVCC.
  • Ability to follow directions.
  • Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to respond in the event of an emergency.
  • This is a Heavy Duty job, according to the Selected Characteristics of Occupations Defined in the Revised Dictionary of Occupational Titles, U.S. Department of Labor and Industry.    Heavy Duty involves exertion of up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25-50 pounds frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds continuously to move objects.
