Weekend Intern information

What is a weekend intern?

Weekend Interns are students or recent graduates who work part-time internships specifically on weekends. These roles provide hands-on experience in a particular field while accommodating academic or weekday commitments. Weekend internships are common in industries that operate during weekends, such as hospitality, retail, healthcare, or media. They offer valuable work experience, networking opportunities, and a chance to develop professional skills without conflicting with weekday obligations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weekend Intern, strong organizational skills, time management, and a willingness to learn are essential, along with current enrollment in a relevant academic program. Familiarity with tools like Microsoft Office, communication platforms, or industry-specific software may be required depending on the field. Proactivity, reliability, and effective communication are standout soft skills for this role. These skills and qualities enable interns to efficiently support teams, gain valuable experience, and contribute meaningfully within limited weekend hours.

What is the difference between Weekend Intern vs Part-Time Intern?

AspectWeekend InternPart-Time Intern
Work SchedulePrimarily works on weekends, limited weekday hoursWorks during weekdays, weekends, or flexible hours
DurationTypically short-term, seasonal, or project-basedCan be short-term or ongoing throughout the year
CredentialsUsually students or recent graduates, minimal certificationsSimilar, often students or entry-level candidates
Work EnvironmentOften in office, retail, or event settingsVaries by industry, including office, retail, or service roles

Weekend Interns focus on weekend work, often for seasonal or short-term projects, while Part-Time Interns have more flexible schedules throughout the week. Both roles target students or entry-level candidates seeking industry experience, but their schedules and durations differ.

What can I expect in terms of mentorship and learning opportunities as a weekend intern?

As a Weekend Intern, you'll typically work closely with experienced professionals who provide guidance on assignments and help you develop practical skills relevant to your field. Many organizations structure their weekend internship programs to include regular check-ins, feedback sessions, and access to training resources, ensuring you gain hands-on experience despite the condensed schedule. You'll often collaborate with other interns and team members on projects, which fosters teamwork and communication skills. This role can be a stepping stone to future full-time positions, as it demonstrates your commitment and ability to balance work with other responsibilities.

Job description

Grace Music Team Intern Job Description:

Grace Music Team Purpose Statement:

To intentionally invite people into musical worship, telling the story (along with the message and gospel) of Jesus - preparing hearts and souls to hear His message and creating space to respond to it. We also support and provide musical worship for other Grace Team events or functions.

Grace Music Team Intern Purpose Statement:

Our desire for our interns is that they would experience as many different worship environments and learn how to grow their skills as they lead. In addition, interns will work with the Music and Vocal Directors to create excellence in the planning and execution of musical worship at Grace Church.

    • Weekend services (with music staff)
    • Grace Students
    • Celebrate Recovery
  • Worship Leading
    • NOTE: We try our best to give our team one weekend off each month. We also strive to be as flexible as possible with any outside schedules the Music Intern may have. However, it is important to remember that it is the Intern's job to communicate any needed time off via direct communication with the rest of the team and/or blockout dates on Planning Center. Keep in mind weekends off are NOT a guarantee, but we will do our best to accommodate.
    • Weekends
    • Grace Students (as available/needed)
    • Celebrate Recovery (as available/needed)

      • How to update PCO with correct mp3s and chord charts
  • StagePreparation
    • Mix tracks in venue

    • Our desire is always to be excellent musically. We strive for this excellence because when we are not excellent, it hinders our ability to point people to Jesus by taking eyes off of Him and onto us. Music Interns are expected to practice to proficiency and comfortability with all music/lyrics for all events of which the Music Intern will be a part (it is expected that all parts will be memorized by rehearsal time).

Measurable Goals:

  • Lead worship in every venue (Weekend, Grace Students, Celebrate Recovery)
