Job description

If you’ve ever wondered what owning your own business is like, just ask an Employee Owner of Chatsworth Products (CPI). Better yet, become one! CPI has an immediate need for a Painter in CPI’s Georgetown, Texas location for our Weekend Shift. 

Schedule: Work weekends and keep your weekdays free. Friday - Sunday, 6:00am - 6:00pm.

As a CPI Painter, you will be responsible for setting up and operating equipment to paint products with powder coat.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Under minimal supervision, sets up powder coat and related equipment to engineering specifications, and prepares equipment for production.
  2. Uses spray gun to apply powder base paint to products.
  3. Observes machine gauges and equipment operation to detect defects or deviations from standards and makes necessary adjustments.
  4. Determines paint flow, viscosity and coating quality by performing visual inspections or by using viscometers.
  5. Turns dials, handwheels, valves or switches to regulate conveyor speeds, machine temperature, air pressure and circulation, and the flow of paint.
  6. Operates auxiliary equipment used in the painting process to include the wash tank and oven.
  7. Inspects and maintains equipment for compliance with safety requirements, including but not limited to all guarding.  Corrects any safety issues prior to operating the equipment.
  8. Inspects coated items for paint coverage and tests for coating thickness. Applies consistent mil paint thicknesses.
  9. Resolves quality and mechanical problems, making minor repairs and equipment adjustments as needed.
  10. Performs paint color changeovers. Cleans booth between color changes to prevent cross contamination.
  11. Prepares parts for rework and applies powder to correct coating defects.
  12. Cleans and maintains equipment.
  13. Conducts minor preventative maintenance on paint equipment as required by the preventive maintenance program.
  14. Records operational data on specified forms to track downtime, efficiency, and quality checks.
  15. Assists and trains others to paint.
  16. Works from blueprints, engineering specifications and production schedules.

Technical Competencies

  • High school or equivalent education preferred.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of related experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and engineering specifications to properly select parts.
  • Capable of using measuring devices as required for product inspection.
  • Good mechanical skills including the use of hand tools.
  • Good troubleshooting skills such that, after a reasonable training period, the employee will be able to evaluate operational problems of the equipment and know the proper corrective actions.
  • Ability to read and understand equipment operating, maintenance, and troubleshooting manuals.
  • Available and willing to work extended hours and/or weekends as production demand dictates.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.

Physical/Environmental Requirements

  • Frequent standing, walking, carrying, lifting, stooping, and crouching.
  • Work with powder coat materials and cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to wear a respirator which is required PPE.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs.
