Job Summary
The Student Assistant will provide support to the Endowed Military Chair in the Department of History, Geography, and Philosophy and to the Academic Support Assistant. The position is available during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. No weekend or remote work is required.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities will include assisting the Endowed Chair with scholarly research projects and assisting the support staff with event setup and coordination, handling administrative tasks, managing communications, and providing general support to ensure the smooth operation of the Hallock Endowment events, as well as basic scanning and photocopying.
Required Qualifications
  • Must be enrolled and on good academic standing and enrolled full-time in a relevant academic program, such as History, Geography, Philosophy, or a related field.

  • Occasional evening work during events subject to availability.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, effectively with the Endowed Chair & Staff.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.

  • Attention to detail and efficient organizational skills.

  • Strong verbal, writing, research, Excel, Word, email communication.

  • Ability to learn new software quickly to create flyers, event announcements, etc.

  • Be prompt, reliable, and have a neat appearance.

  • Be able to balance academics with work responsibilities.

  • Be able to adhere to a set work schedule and communicate any shift conflicts.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Must be enrolled and on good academic standing and enrolled full-time in a relevant academic program, such as History, Geography, Philosophy, or a related field.
  • Interest in military history.

  • Experience in scholarly research including physical archives and digital databases.

  • This position is intended for a student seeking a longer-term opportunity rather than a one-semester assignment.

Proposed Salary
The salary is commensurate with education and experience. This position will work up to 19 hours per week.
