Job description

Build the future, spark innovation and align your career with purpose.

McKinstry is innovating the waste and climate harm out of the built environment and creating lasting impact. Together, we're building a thriving planet.

Buildings are a leading contributor to the climate crisis, generating nearly 40% of total global energy-related carbon emissions. We're making a lasting impact on our industry and within our communities by addressing the climate, affordability and equity crises through:

  • renewables and energy services

  • engineering and design

  • construction and facility services

To get where we're going, we need big thinkers, problem solvers and collaborative mindsets. Does that sound like you?

The Opportunity with McKinstry

The Senior Helpdesk Technician delivers hands-on technical support to employees at our Seattle office, providing outstanding customer experience while resolving a wide range of hardware, software, and systems issues. The ideal candidate combines strong deskside support experience with excellent communication skills, adaptability, and the ability to prioritize effectively in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide in-person and phone-first technical support to staff in the Seattle office and remote locations.

  • Perform new hire builds, PC replacements, imaging, and software deployments.

  • Support and troubleshoot Windows OS, Microsoft 365/Office applications, and related productivity tools.

  • Manage and troubleshoot endpoints using SCCM/Intune and Azure Active Directory.

  • Handle printer support, peripheral management, and general deskside hardware issues.

  • Participate in on-call rotation and respond to escalated or time-sensitive issues.

  • Assist with light project management tasks including tracking, coordination, and follow-through on IT initiatives.

  • Maintain accurate documentation of issues, resolutions, and asset information.

  • Serve as an escalation resource for less experienced helpdesk staff.

What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry

Required:

  • Customer-first instinct. In-person or on the phone is your first move, not a chat window or ticket queue.

  • Executive presence. Strong communicator, punctual, and polished.

  • Adaptability. Priorities will shift - sometimes mid-task.

  • Strong work ethic.

  • 5 years of helpdesk or deskside support experience; deskside/field support backgrounds strongly preferred over pure service desk roles.

  • Strong working knowledge of Windows 10/11, Microsoft 365, and common enterprise business applications.

  • Hands-on experience with endpoint management tools such as SCCM/Intune and Azure Active Directory.

  • Demonstrated ability to support AV systems for meetings and events.

  • Excellent verbal communication skills - comfortable engaging with senior executives and leadership.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, executive-facing environment.

  • Availability for on-call rotation and the 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM in-office shift at our Seattle location.

Preferred:

  • Light project management experience - tracking tasks, coordinating with vendors or teams, managing timelines.

  • Experience with new hire onboarding builds, PC refresh/replacement programs, and software deployments

Valued Certifications:

Not required, but candidates holding any of the following will stand out:

  • CompTIA A+

  • CompTIA Network+

  • CompTIA Security+

  • Microsoft certifications focused on Microsoft 365 or Windows OS support

  • ITIL Foundation
