Job Requirements
Position Summary
Plays a key role in supporting clinical and translational research by partnering with faculty, study teams, and technical staff to translate research needs into scalable data solutions. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality, timely, and accurate data resources, while ensuring reliable data pipelines and strong analytics capabilities to drive research insights across diverse datasets.
Key Responsibilities
  • Customer Engagement & Requirements Gathering
  • Lead intake, scoping, and documentation of clinical research data requests, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Technical Translation
  • Convert clinical and research needs into technical specifications, including SQL queries and data model designs.
  • Data Solution Development
  • Design, build, and maintain data assets such as relational databases, data marts, data lakes, and flat files (.csv) for research use.
  • SQL Development & Validation
  • Write, test, and optimize SQL queries to extract and transform data; participate in code reviews and ensure data accuracy and integrity.
  • Project Coordination & Delivery
  • Manage and execute data requests within defined scope and timelines, adhering to a one-business-day service level agreement (SLA).
  • Data Quality Assurance
  • Identify and resolve data issues, validate new data sources, and ensure overall data reliability.
  • Ad Hoc Analysis
  • Perform on-demand data analysis to support research and operational decision-making.
  • Documentation & Standards
  • Develop and maintain documentation, including technical specifications, job aids, and best practices.
  • Technology & Innovation
  • Research and evaluate new tools, technologies, and data sources to enhance research capabilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Experience
Education & Experience - Required
  • Bachelor's degree in a health science (e.g., biostatistics, epidemiology) or technical field (e.g., computer science, engineering), or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with healthcare data in EHR data warehouses (e.g., Epic Clarity, Cerner Millennium).
  • At least 2 years of experience with standardized clinical coding systems (e.g., ICD-10, SNOMED CT, LOINC, RxNorm, UMLS) and common data models (e.g., OMOP).
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in healthcare reporting or biomedical research, including data profiling, data quality assessment, data analysis/reporting, and dataset curation.
  • At least 2 years of SQL programming experience.

Education & Experience - Preferred
  • Master's degree in a health science or technical field, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience working with healthcare data, particularly within Epic data warehouses (Clarity or Caboodle).
  • 5+ years of experience with clinical coding systems and common data models (e.g., OMOP).
  • 5+ years of experience in healthcare reporting or biomedical research environments, including data profiling, quality assessment, and dataset curation.
  • Advanced SQL programming expertise.
  • Epic certification in Caboodle, Clarity, and/or Clinical Data Models.
  • Strong business intelligence (BI) development skills.
  • Experience with data mapping, terminology management, and documentation.
  • Proficiency in data manipulation tools/languages (e.g., SAS, R, Python).
  • Experience with graph databases (e.g., Neo4j) and query languages such as Cypher.
