Job Description
Schmidt Construction part of the Levy Group of Companies is seeking a Grading Foreman to work at our Castle Rock, CO location. The Grading Foreman will be responsible for safely supervising a grading or prep crew and ensuring high quality products and services.
The Foreman is responsible for leading field crews and directing daily construction operations to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project plans and company standards. This role supports the Project Superintendent in field execution and is accountable for crew performance, jobsite safety, production, equipment coordination, and communication from the crew level.
Pay: $75-95k
Shift: Daytime Shift with Occasional Nights and Weekends

Responsibilities
The Paving Foreman will:
Safety Leadership
  • Lead daily jobsite safety discussions and ensure crews understand task-specific hazards
  • Enforce company safety policies, PPE requirements, and safe work practices
  • Participate in job hazard analyses and daily planning meetings
  • Identify and correct unsafe conditions and behaviors immediately
  • Report incidents, near misses, and safety concerns promptly

Crew Leadership & Supervision
  • Direct and supervise field crews to ensure productive and efficient operations
  • Assign daily tasks and responsibilities based on project priorities
  • Train, mentor, and develop crew members
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and a positive work environment
  • Address performance or behavioral concerns with support from the Project Superintendent and Operations leadership

Production & Quality
  • Ensure work is completed according to plans, specifications, and quality standards
  • Monitor daily production and adjust work plans to meet schedule and budget goals
  • Coordinate with the Project Superintendent on sequencing and progress
  • Verify grades, layouts, and installation requirements are being followed
  • Minimize rework by maintaining high quality expectations in the field

Equipment & Trucking Coordination
  • Coordinate equipment needs and ensure proper use and care of company equipment
  • Communicate trucking needs and material delivery timing to keep crews working efficiently
  • Work closely with dispatch, plants, and material sources to maintain steady production
  • Identify equipment or material issues early and communicate them to the Project Superintendent

Communication & Documentation
  • Maintain clear communication with the Project Superintendent and Operations Managers
  • Provide daily updates on progress, production, delays, and jobsite conditions
  • Assist with daily reports, quantities, and time tracking as required
  • Represent Schmidt Construction professionally when interacting with customers, inspectors, and the public

Skills
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Strong understanding of paving and heavy civil construction methods
  • Proven ability to lead crews and manage daily field tasks
  • Strong knowledge of jobsite safety practices and hazard recognition
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, grades, and basic construction layouts
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to make decisions and solve problems in a fast-paced field environment
  • Ability to coordinate multiple moving parts including crews, equipment, and trucking
  • Self-motivated, dependable, and accountable
  • Willingness to work extended hours and varying schedules based on project needs
