Job description

The Farms Country Club, a premier private club in Wallingford, Connecticut, is seeking a hands-on, approachable, and team-oriented Golf Course Superintendent to lead all aspects of golf course maintenance and agronomic operations.
This highly visible leadership role is responsible for delivering exceptional playing conditions, guiding a multi-generational team, and executing long-term agronomic and capital improvement strategies.
The Superintendent will work closely with the General Manager and collaborate with the Golf Course Committee, Head Golf Professional, Racquets Director, and Pool Director to ensure high-quality experiences across the entire property. A structured transition will be established with the outgoing Superintendent to support continuity and knowledge transfer.
Club Highlights
  • 2025 Maintenance Budget: $1.4M payroll and operating
  • Capital Budget: $200K in 2025, increasing significantly over the next three years
  • Annual Rounds: 25,000 plus 20 outings
  • Staffing: 6 full-time employees; grows to 13 in season
  • Schedule: Early mornings to late afternoons in season, weekends, and on-call responsibilities; winters are flexible, with no more than 5 days per week

  • Direct all golf course maintenance practices, including turfgrass, irrigation, fertility, and pest management

  • Manage annual operating and capital budgets
  • Oversee irrigation systems, equipment, and maintenance facility operations
  • Ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations
  • Communicate course conditions and initiatives to the General Manager, Golf Course Committee, and membership
  • Coordinate with golf, racquets, and pool leadership to support operational needs across the property
  • Manage vendor relationships and procurement of materials and services

Preferred Qualifications
  • Golf Course Superintendent experience, or advanced Assistant Superintendent ready for growth
  • Certificate, Associate's degree, or Bachelor's degree in turfgrass management or related field required
  • Strong agronomic knowledge of Northeast growing conditions
  • Proven experience with budgeting and financial oversight
  • Demonstrated leadership and communication skills
  • Connecticut Pesticide Supervisor Certification, or ability to obtain within 60 days
