A global construction & engineering firm has a need for a Construction Stormwater Inspector to support construction & environmental management systems/projects across California. This position can be located in numerous locations across California.

Responsibilities

  • Depending on the type of site there will either be routine weekly or monthly site inspections needed once the construction starts until the site is stabilized. The duration of the projects can vary from a month or 2 or to many years. When rain is forecasted at 50% or more or at 0.50 inches or more a pre-rain event will need to be completed (this can be coupled with the weekly or monthly inspection) at least 48 hours prior to the forecasted start of the event. If rain occurs during working hours (typical construct working hours are weekdays only during typical day hours, not overnight; however, there is always the possibility that there could be overnight or weekend work, at which then an inspection would need to be completed if it is raining), then an additional inspection will need to be completed every day it is raining during work. Finally, if rain is received then a post-storm inspection needs to be completed within 48 hours of the end of the event.
  • Inspection requirements are for the most part the same for all types of inspections: Visit the site and view all of the work locations, areas of soil disturbance, laydown yards, etc., and verify that all requirements in the SWPPP are being followed. Take lots of pictures, including a picture of the rain gauge. If it has rained be sure to empty out the rain gauge. Inspections will be documented on an inspection form that then needs to be translated into PG&E’s online inspection form. Hard copies of the form should be left in the SWPPP binder which should be onsite with the construction crew. A selection of the pictures will be included with the completion of the online inspection form (so the pictures will need to be transferred to the computer to attach to the form). Depending on the site type, a water sample analyzed for pH/turbidity in the field may need to be completed at discharge sampling points during rain events where discharge is observed.
  • Communicate any deficiencies to the onsite construction crew and what they need to do to fix them and also communicate the deficiency to the QSD on the SWPPP immediately.
  • There are also some documents that we need to prepare, I am not sure if we would also ask the inspector to assist with these or just use the information he/she has provided to complete them ourselves in-house.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or Geology
  • QSD and/or QSP certification required
