Job description

Stadium is looking for a Master Control Operator to join our team. The Master Control Operator should be technically inclined with a comprehensive understanding of and the ability to operate broadcast equipment in a master control environment. This includes original taped programming, LIVE events, Press Conferences and LIVE studio shows. The Master Control Operators are responsible for ensuring a quality on air presentation for all programming on Stadium. They must possess strong communication skills with all supporting departments and have the ability to work under pressure and solve problems quickly. 

Stadium is the original multi-platform sports network featuring exclusive live and on-demand games and events, extensive highlights, classic games, original programming, and daily live studio programming. Stadium includes a 24/7 linear feed distributed across both digital and broadcast platforms, as well as a comprehensive array of on-demand (VOD) digital content including additional live games and events. 

Key Job Responsibilities Include: 

  • On-air operation of Grass Valley ITX Master Control System 
  • Editing, managing on air logs, automation playlists and server device management as required 
  • Complete LIVE on air faxing with remote and studio sources: playlist routes 
  • Demonstrated abilities to monitor quality of outgoing signals and adjust equipment as necessary 
  • Knowledge of on-air graphic elements through Grass Valley Vertigo – Ticker, bug and sponsor secondary events 
  • Preview scheduled programs to ensure that signals are functioning and programs are ready for broadcast. Air checklists and playlist monitoring for on air playout accuracy 
  • Ensure Close Captioning is accurate 
  • Support operation of the station by assisting engineering, ingest, and other departments 
  • Report equipment problems, ensure that repairs are made, and perform emergency workarounds 
  • Quality Control of filing shows and commercial spots into video server. Knowledge of spot delivery platforms a must. 
  • Analytical Thinking — analyzing information and using logic to address work-related issues and problems. 
  • Dependability — reliable, responsible, dependable, and fulfill network obligations. 
  • Attention to Detail — strong detail in completing work tasks and provide communication through engineering reporting and Discrepancy reports 

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years Master Control Experience, Grass Valley ITX experience preferred 
  • College Degree in related field (Communications, Broadcasting) preferred 
  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office required 
  • Strong sense of initiative required 
  • Be able to read and understand Video and Audio metering software required 
  • Detail oriented required 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required 
  • Flexible schedule nights, overnights, weekends, and holidays required 
  • Punctual and dependable required 
  • Must be willing to work at our Chicago, IL location 

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: 

  • Employee is regularly required to stand or sit; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard reach 
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds of camera equipment 
  • Must be able to perform physical duties consistent with setting up a production studio such as bending, stooping and kneeling  
  • Ability to work in an office environment with moderate noise 
  • Ability to perform computer work for an extended period of time 
  • May be requested to work non-business hours and weekends for special job-related events
