Job description

Lone Star Paving is a paving contractor, operating in the Central Texas region with paving crews, HMA, aggregate, trucking, milling, and quality control. Our operations complete heavy highway and civil projects throughout Texas. Position Overview
The Superintendent position will work hand in hand with the Area Manager, Foremen, and Crews to ensure the day-to-day operations and timely completion of all construction projects. This role includes the oversight of crew personnel, equipment, and overall safety of the project, ensuring paving jobs are completed to high standards. The ideal candidate is familiar with all aspects of asphalt paving and OSHA regulations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Direct activities of workers concerned with construction of highways and other construction projects.
  • Study specifications to plan procedures for construction on basis of starting and completion times and staffing requirements for each phase of construction based on knowledge of available tools and equipment and various construction methods.
  • Attend pre-construction meetings and assist in final planning and implementation of work plans, as needed.
  • Work with foremen to hold daily safety meetings and ensure that all employees follow safety practices.
  • Reports all accidents, injuries, near-misses, etc. to Management, Safety, and HR
  • Schedule crew's duties and assign responsibilities. Ensure all employees are working together efficiently.
  • Supervise operation of all machines and equipment used on jobs.
  • Coordinate with and direct supervisory personnel and subcontractors engaged in planning and executing work procedures, interpreting specifications, and coordinating various phases of construction to prevent delays.
  • Communicate with supervisory personnel and human resources representatives to resolve complaints and grievances within workforce.
  • Consult with supervisory and engineering personnel, inspectors, and suppliers of tools and materials to resolve construction problems and improve construction methods.
  • Inspect work in progress to ensure that work conforms to specifications and that construction schedules are adhered to. Inspect job progress on all jobs on a daily basis.
  • Ensure appropriate materials and equipment are received for each job. Ensure all jobs are properly staffed and have the appropriate equipment to perform the job at hand.
  • Ensure job tracking reports, daily log sheets, daily employee time, and all other necessary paperwork is completed and submitted in a timely manner
  • Be constantly aware of job progress including time frame.
  • Coordinate maintenance of equipment and vehicles with the mechanic shop.
  • Ability to perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • 5+ years experience with heavy highway paving
  • Must be organized with a detail-oriented mindset.
  • Must be positive, friendly, and professional.
  • Ability to work well with others in a group or one-on-one setting.
  • Promote, execute and adhere to the company's safety policy, and encourage all employees, subcontractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
  • Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself, or endanger the wellbeing of others.
  • Promote a team approach and maintain dialogue with all employees to exchange information and gather ideas.
  • Collaborate with any project teams on other special initiatives, as required.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements
  • Mid-Level Position
  • Working knowledge of asphalt production and associated equipment, and an understanding of operations and safety requirements is required.
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred, but not required

Working Conditions
  • Be available for overtime, extended hours, night shifts, and weekends as required.
  • Some travel may be required as our operations span throughout Texas.
  • Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include but not be limited to inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
  • Must comply with the company's drug and alcohol testing requirements.
  • Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required.
  • Proper PPE is required at all times.
