Job description

The position is responsible for performing nursing and operational functions of Employee Health. Demonstrate ability to meet the needs and provide services to the culturally diverse employee population of The Christ hospital.   Adhere to the American Board of Occupational Health Nurses (ABOHN) code of ethics and to the scope of practice described in the Ohio Nurse Practice Act.   

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

EDUCATION: Minimum of Associate Degree in Nursing, Bachelors' degree in Nursing preferred.

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: 5 yrs experience in medical-surgical nursing, emergency, occupational health or employee health; 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Must have technical competence and professional clinical judgment. Excellent physical assessment skills.  Nursing diagnostic ability.  Must be able to work alone without other medical resources immediately available.   Knowledge of OSHA, CDC and Ohio Department of Health regulations; proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Must have the ability to communicate, counsel and educate effectively.   

LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS:

Registered Nurse in Ohio required.  Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN-S) preferred. 

Participate in annual respirator, TB and flu compliance programs. Provides annual respirator training and reviews medical questionnaires. 

Obtain blood and urine samples for required screenings.

Coordinate 2 step TB screen or Administer T-Spot.

Administer flu shot, 

Coordinate follow-up immunizations and testing.

Review returning lab work.   Communicate with HR regarding clearance to begin work.  Schedule insufficient titer or non-compliant vaccines for new employee.

Document lab results and exam in employee file.  Maintain strict confidentiality in dealing with employee health information.

Establish positive relationship with new employee, encouraging selection of primary care physician, if none indicated.  Review services of Employee Health / Disability Management with employee.
