Job description

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: The Staff Development/QA Nurse is accountable for ensuring that The Groves meets all regulatory standards with respect to infection prevention and control. In addition, this individual is responsible for ensuring that The Groves operates in an ethical and professional manner as outlined by the organization and its leadership.

Infection Prevention -ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

DAILY:

Schedule: M-F 8am-5pm (Flexiability for change to hours as needed)

1. Review all orders and report notes from previous day. Log all new ABT, cases of yeast, rashes, parasites, n/v, and specimens to be collected.

2. Ensure ABT usage has documentation to meet McGreer criteria.

3. Review pending specimens for collection activity and notify nursesโ€™ station if >48 hours and there is no collection in PCC.

4. Review cultures, verify they were addressed if needed. If ABT was started prior to culture, make sure current tx is sensitive. If culture is negative, question need for ABT.

5. Review new admits to ensure the correct dx is noted for ABT. Search for any cultures or immunizations.

6. Ensure residents with MDROโ€™s or other communicable diseases are placed on appropriate precautions per CDC recommendations.

7. Monitor for poor infection control practices and provide education/correction (cath.tubing dragging, carrying dirty linens not in a bag, etc.).

8. Send Excel CSV to state lab if any COVID tests were done in the facility.

9. Send NHSN reports to regional to enter.

Weekly:

Verify new admits have TB started or prior 2 step on file.

2. Verify consent for flu shot and send to LTC pharmacy if applicable.

3. Verify consent for pneumvax and COVID sent to LTC pharmacy if applicable.

4. If influenza is active send report to Jackson County Health Department.

5. Check county COVID positivity rate to ensure testing is meeting criteria.

Monthly:

Total all infections, GI, yeast, for QA report.

2. Log infection rates, utilization, days for therapy, prevalence, organism

3. Map all infections.

4. Monthly COVID vaccine clinic.

Quarterly:

Report VRE, CRE, MRSA to state.

2. Map organisms.

Infection Prevention Additional Duties:

Cover White Oak as needed. Must have nurse for 8 hours per week.

2. Emergency plan updates and education.

3. Check AED weekly.

4. CPR classes weekly.

5. QA.

6. Annual facility assessment.

7. Falls.

8. Develop and provide education.

9. Admission audit daily

10. Acuity at least monthly put in facility assessment.

Infection Prevention QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Current RN/LPN licensure as approved by state.

2. At least one year of nursing experience and continuing education or special preparation for gerontological and/or long-term care nursing preferred.

3. Previous experience in quality assurance strongly preferred.
