What are weekend figure drawing models?

Weekend figure drawing models are individuals who pose for artists, typically in art schools, studios, or workshops, during weekends. Their primary role is to hold various poses—ranging from short gestures to longer, sustained positions—so that artists can practice and improve their skills in capturing the human form. Models may pose nude or clothed, depending on the session requirements. The job requires the ability to remain still, professionalism, and punctuality. Weekend figure drawing models play an essential role in art education and the creative process.

The environment is professional and respectful, with clear instructions from instructors regarding pose duration and style. You’ll work closely with art instructors and students, requiring you to maintain poses and occasionally adapt based on feedback. Flexibility and reliability are valued, and consistent performance can lead to more frequent bookings and opportunities.

Job description

School of Visual Arts and Design:

At the UCF School of Visual Arts and Design we immerse our students in an environment that celebrates the fusion of traditional and contemporary art and design forms. Our mission is to harness the power of art to engage the senses, ignite the imagination, and inspire creativity across diverse mediums.

The Opportunity:

UCF School of Visual Arts and Design seeks applications for multiple part-time openings for Figure Model positions to support the Studio Art and Emerging Media programs. Un-draped Figure Models (without clothing) serve as primary subjects for drawing and studio art courses at all levels within an academic setting, including foundations, intermediate, advanced, and graduate instruction. Models work under the direction of faculty to create poses appropriate for each class, ranging from quick poses for gesture drawings to long poses lasting for the duration of the class session.

Classes that require figure drawing rely heavily on the model; therefore, punctuality and preparedness are essential. Models are expected to hold a variety of poses, including standing, seated, and reclining, for reasonable periods of time to allow students to accurately observe and capture the figure.

Models must maintain professionalism in a classroom environment and follow faculty guidance regarding posing, breaks, and class needs. The role requires comfort working in an academic setting with students and faculty, and the ability to remain still during assigned pose durations. Reasonable breaks are provided.

UCF is seeking to fill multiple roles. Candidates for this job posting will be considered for additional vacancies in this department.

Responsibilities:

  • Pose for drawing and painting classes as directed by faculty.

  • Maintain stillness and composure during poses, including extended sessions.

  • Models will be scheduled in advance and expected to arrive promptly for scheduled sessions.

  • Collaborate respectfully with faculty and students in a classroom setting.

  • Enter hours in Workday on a daily basis and submit to model supervisor.

  • Complete periodic mandatory UCF Trainings.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 0+ years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience as a figure model for art classes or workshops; preferably in a higher education or academic studio environment.

  • Interest in the arts or humanities.

  • Punctuality, reliability, and a positive attitude.

Special Instructions to the Applicants:

Position requires a valid Class E driver's license. This position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.

UCF is seeking to fill multiple roles. Candidates for this job posting will be considered for additional vacancies in this department.

All applicants must be authorized to work for any U.S. employer. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position, and the university cannot accommodate H1B transfers or employment-based visa processing for individuals currently sponsored by another employer.
