As a General Ag (Farm Equipment) Mechanic, you'll play a key role in maintaining and repairing the machinery that powers our farm operations. From preventive maintenance and diagnostics to field repairs and reporting, your efforts will help keep our production running smoothly and safely. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on work, takes pride in organization, and is motivated to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues with efficiency and care.

Essential Functions

  • Occasionally operates various mechanical equipment used in agricultural production, such as tractors, loaders, and irrigation equipment to perform diagnostic-based maintenance.
  • Performs preventive maintenance inspections and service on machines.
  • Thoroughly cleans machines and machine parts, removing parts and reinstalling, as necessary.
  • Oils and lubricates moving parts on machines to ensure effective performance.
  • Records and reports damaged, worn, or broken parts.
  • Orders and installs replacement parts for machines.
  • Identifies the causes of unexpected breakdowns of machines.
  • Repairs broken machines quickly and efficiently.
  • Prepares reports documenting work performed.
  • Cleans, organizes, inventories, stocks, and otherwise maintains shop areas, parts, tools, and supplies.
  • Coordinates with farm managers and supervisors to schedule regular maintenance or repairs on machines.
  • Makes necessary modifications and implements tests runs; confers with farm manager regarding test results and makes additional alterations to machinery as necessary.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Work Environment

This job operates in exposure to direct sunlight and weather 50% of the time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This job also operates in an office and, in some cases, from a remote location. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This employee requires full range of motion of arms and legs and requires constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.

This is a full-time position. Days and hours can change at the discretion of the Farm Supervisor; though typical hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., evening and weekend hours may be necessary to accommodate operational needs.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day.

Required Education and Experience

  • 2+ years of vocational experience or training in mechanics
  • Heavy equipment operating experience preferred.
  • Experience with farm equipment maintenance preferred.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications: 

  • Must be 19 years of age or older.
  • All potential new hires will be subjected to a pre-employment background and motor vehicle check and drug screen.
  • To perform essential job duties, all potential new hires must be eligible to drive a company vehicle according to Super-Sod insurance guidelines:
    • Must possess a valid driver's license.
    • No major safety and moving violations reported on MVR within the past (3) years.

Major violations include but are not limited to: 

  • Felony convictions 
  • Automobile insurance canceled or not renewed by an insurance company due to excessive tickets, accidents, points, or fraud.
  • Convicted of alcohol or drug related offense while driving.
  • Convicted of three or more speeding violations or serious moving violations; moving violations include texting or cell phone violations.
  • Been involved in two or more chargeable accidents.
