Responsibilities of the Farm Foreman II: To assist the Farm Manager in the routine farm tasks associated with a working production farm. To work with students to facilitate production and provide instruction to train them to be prepared to join the workforce. To develop and maintain a working plan of action that provides the Agency with fresh food products, crops suitable for harvesting, marketing, and/or providing feed for livestock and maintaining ornamental and designated pollinator friendly plants on campus.

To work with staff and students to achieve the goals set forth by the Farm Manager and Agency leadership. Employee will receive directives from the Farm Manager. The Foreman of Operations will directly oversee the day-to-day implementation of work-based initiatives.

Employees must be able to manage time and resources to meet or exceed production goals. Employees will need to use discretion based on a working knowledge to make real time decisions in the field. Assist in the stewardship of Agency owned lands.

This includes soil analysis and amendment, erosion control, crop establishment, rotational grazing, planting and harvesting of a variety of crops and forages as well as the establishment and maintenance of annual and perennial species. Development and implementation of production plans for a variety of food and vegetable crops that will provide items for marketing and consumption in the Agency cafeteria. Use equipment to prepare soil substrate for planting, implement the planting of crops, tend and maintain crops, harvest and process various crops.

Assist in maintaining pastures and livestock grazing facilities through conventional, no till and minimum tillage practices along with gps guided and manual systems for the dispersion of various amendments and fertilizers. Apply a variety of herbicides and pesticides within their labeled range of functions to control unwanted plant species and pests. Provide supervision, instruction, guidance and leadership to students and intern workers.

Remove, install, cultivate and maintain a variety of ornamental and pollinator friendly plant species in a variety of areas around campus and on Agency owned or leased lands. Responsible for on-call duties at night and on weekends whenever such need arises as determined by the Farm Manager. Oversee projects and tasks for Farm and School.

Assist in caring for campus landscape including but not limited to cutting grass, weed eating, trimming trees, and maintaining equipment. Assist in planting, cultivating, harvesting and storing hay, both round and square bales. Work with staff and teachers to ensure that greenhouses are safe, productive and well maintained.

All other duties as assigned. Minimum and Additional Requirements High School graduate, experience in agriculture especially in the row crop, vegetable production and agronomy emphasis areas. Must have a valid driver's license.

Additional Requirements: Must be able to supervise student workers, work within an established organizational hierarchy, maintain accurate records on a daily basis and adapt to a dynamic workflow. Considerable knowledge of soils, soil amendments, soil conservation, water usage and irrigation will be necessary. Demonstrable ability to operate equipment of 100 hp and below is required.

Knowledge of plant and vegetable production in both conventional outdoor and greenhouse settings is required. This job will also require the ability to work with livestock of various species and perform a wide variety of farm related tasks. This position requires working outside in all environments and weather conditions.

Work may be hazardous at times. Lifting heavy objects (over 50 lbs.) is required at times. Weekend on-call responsibilities and working campus events will be required at various times

Working with other farm staff, students, maintenance staff and teaching staff in a dynamic environment is required.
