Job Summary/Basic Function
Summer Sales Farm Assistants will work 4-5 hours on harvest/pack days, primarily assisting the Vegetable Production crew with the washing and packing of produce, and assisting with harvest as needed. They will also work one farmers market per week on either Saturday or Sunday on a rotational schedule. Average 12 hours per week at $12 per hour.
  • Wash and pack harvested produce
  • Assist with harvesting crops as needed
  • Prepare produce for market sales
  • Transport and set up materials for farmers markets
  • Sell produce and interact with customers at farmers markets
  • Handle basic cash or point-of-sale transactions
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of workspaces
  • Assist with loading and unloading supplies and produce
  • Follow all food safety and handling guidelines

Minimum Qualifications
  • Enrolled in at least 6 credit hours at Shepherd University.
  • Degree-seeking student.
  • Must have reliable transportation. The site is located 2 miles off of main campus.
  • Ability to perform light to moderate physical labor, including standing for extended periods and lifting produce
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
  • Ability to work early mornings and weekends

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with farming, gardening, or produce handling
  • Customer service or sales experience (especially at farmers markets)
  • Interest in sustainable agriculture or local food systems
