Job Summary/Basic Function
Tabler Student Farm is seeking a Communications and Social Media Intern! The Intern will promote the activities at farm by creating engaging social media content, designing flyers and other promotional materials, updating our website, writing for our newsletter, and more.
Tabler Student Farm is Shepherd University's "hidden gem" - this 160 acre historic farm that is a part of campus that many students don't yet know about. A successful Communications and Social Media Intern will raise awareness of Tabler Student Farm amongst the student population primarily through a social media campaign that engages both students and the local community. The Intern will highlight the various programs and promote events, growing our online presence to give people a better understanding of our work and invite them to engage with us online and in person.
Applicants do not need to have experience with farming but should be comfortable working outdoors. Ideal candidates have some experience with social media, especially Instagram and Facebook, as well as reliable transportation and a creative eye. Evening and weekend work is sometimes required in order to capture certain events like workshops or farmer's markets
This is a Federal Work Study Student Employment position. If you are not sure if you quality, please check with the office of financial aid. Students are not permitted to work beyond the FWS award they have been allotted for the academic year. Students may return to the farm the falling year if they are still eligible for FWS. Should they no longer be eligible, their supervisor will notify them of the separation.
Minimum Qualifications
- Federal Work Study Eligible Student
- Enrolled in at least 6 credit hours at Shepherd University.
- Degree-seeking student.
- Must have reliable transportation. The site is located 2 miles off of main campus.
- Reliable and punctual
- Experience with social media
- Willing to work outdoors
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
- Classroom or work experience with communications and marketing
- Experience with farming, gardening, or produce handling
- Interest in sustainable agriculture or local food systems
