Title: Associate Environmental Specialist

Employment Type: Temporary (6 Months)

Compensation Range: $55 โ€“ $59 per hour

Location: La Verne, California

Work Schedule: 9/80 Hybrid Schedule | 7:00 AM โ€“ 4:45 PM | Every Other Friday Off

This organization is a large regional public-sector organization serving Southern California. The agency operates major water treatment and distribution facilities and maintains a strong regulatory compliance and environmental stewardship framework across its operations.


Position Summary

The Associate Environmental Specialist supports environmental compliance, safety, and technical training initiatives in a high-volume, team-oriented water treatment plant environment. The role focuses on

wastewater permitting compliance, laboratory data analysis, environmental inspections, incident investigations, and technical documentation.


Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and/or perform wastewater sampling, packaging, chain of custody documentation, and shipment in accordance with permit requirements
  • Review analytical laboratory data, prepare reports, and assess compliance with wastewater permit conditions
  • Coordinate and/or perform resampling activities as needed
  • Conduct inspections to ensure compliance with environmental program requirements
  • Participate in audit and assessment teams and assist with corrective action development
  • Document and investigate environmental incidents
  • Research, analyze, and prepare documentation supporting environmental compliance and impact reduction initiatives
  • Prepare technical reports and conduct presentations as required
  • Coordinate internal review of external regulatory or technical documents and compile feedback
  • Develop checklists, protocols, procedures, and manuals
  • Perform related environmental specialist duties as assigned


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and four years of relevant experience
  • OR two years in an Assistant Environmental Specialist II classification within a comparable public utility environment
  • OR Masterโ€™s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and two years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of environmental science theories, practices, and investigative techniques
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of analytical protocols and scientific terminology used in water and hazardous material testing
  • Knowledge of laboratory data analysis and interpretation related to environmental investigations
  • Knowledge of water treatment and distribution processes and operations
  • Proficiency in spreadsheets, databases, presentation software, and project management tools
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask, and work effectively under pressure
  • Defensive Driver Certification


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in environmental planning at the state, regional, or local government level
  • Experience participating in environmental compliance audits
  • Experience supporting safety and technical training programs
