The Department of Environmental Health Sciences at the School of Public Health (SOPH) at University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is searching for an outstanding open rank (tenure track or tenured) faculty member, with rank and tenure status commensurate with qualifications.
Applicants should have research interests in the broader area of environmental and occupational safety and health and show commitment to a collaborative and multidisciplinary research environment. A doctoral degree in industrial hygiene, occupational safety and health, environmental health sciences, exposure sciences, environmental engineering, or a related scientific discipline is required.
The successful candidate will be expected to have a record of peer-reviewed publications,

Additionally, they will be expected to work collaboratively and contribute to the activities of the Deep South Center for Occupational Health and Safety (DSC) at UAB, the only National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)-funded Education and Research Center in the southeast region of the US. Specific research areas could include (but are not limited to): development of methods to assess occupational exposures to chemical agents (toxic gases/vapors, aerosols), physical agents (noise, vibration, heat stress, radiation) and evaluate the health effects of these exposures; development and implementation of control methods (engineering, administrative, PPE) to minimize the health impact of exposures; development and/or application of biomarkers and statistical methods for assessing environmental and occupational exposures. Advising master's and doctoral students is also expected. The ability to develop interdisciplinary collaborative interactions both within and outside UAB, involving partnerships with the local and regional businesses including (but not limited to) aerospace, automotive, bioscience, pharmaceutical, chemical, forest products, metal manufacturing, warehousing and distribution, and food products industries will be highly regarded.
Preference will be given to those at the rank of Associate Professor with current extramural funding support. Preference will be given to those with demonstrable faculty, staff, and student management and leadership skills and experience. However, all qualified candidates will receive full consideration and are strongly encouraged to apply. The expectation for anyone accepting this position is that they will work in person in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences in the SOPH at UAB.
