Job Title: Quality Control / Certified Welding Inspector

(AISC) We have been in business since 1976 (formerly M&J Materials, Inc.), providing quality service and materials to some of the largest general contractors nationwide.

Job Summary

We are seeking a Quality Control / Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to oversee and support quality assurance activities for structural steel fabrication and erection. This role ensures compliance with AWS D1.1, AISC requirements, and project specifications through inspections, documentation, and coordination with production and project teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform quality control inspections of structural steel welding in shop and field environments
  • Inspect welds for compliance with AWS D1.1, drawings, and project specifications
  • Verify welder qualifications, WPS, and PQRs
  • Inspect fit-up, joint preparation, preheat, interpass temperatures, and finished welds
  • Review material certifications (MTRs) and maintain material traceability
  • Coordinate, witness, and review NDT results as required
  • Document nonconformances and verify corrective actions
  • Maintain inspection reports and quality records for project closeout
  • Support AISC certification requirements and internal/external audits

Required Qualifications

  • Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification
  • Experience in structural steel fabrication and/or erection
  • Working knowledge of AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code - Steel
  • Ability to read structural drawings, shop drawings, and welding symbols
  • Strong documentation and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in an AISC-certified fabrication shop
  • NDT Level II certification (UT, MT, PT)
  • Experience with bolting inspection (RCSC)

Work Environment

  • Shop and subcontractor inspections; ability to work around active fabrication areas.
