American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN PCU - Progressive Care Unit for a travel nursing job in Bismarck, North Dakota.

Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Tele/PCU position requiring PCU experience, telemetry strip interpretation, and night shift availability.

Details
  • Acute care stepdown unit with 32 beds in a Level II Trauma Center
  • Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with diagnoses such as cardiac cath, EP studies, pacers, ETOH, COVID/BiPAP, general surgical with cardiac history, pneumonia, sepsis, influenza, and acute-on-chronic conditions
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 on nights, occasionally 1:5-6; PCU-level overflow care is 1:3
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitroglycerin, Nipride, and Lasix (low-dose Dopamine); Levophed is not used on this unit
  • RNs must independently read and interpret telemetry strips; portable monitors, in-room monitors, and a monitoring tech at the nurses station are available
  • RT equipment on the unit includes BiPAP, trachs, and Airvo
  • CNAs/patient care techs are available with a goal ratio of 1:10
  • A charge nurse is present on both shifts and may occasionally take a light patient load of 2-3 patients
  • 12-hour night shifts (7pโ€“7a)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Every other holiday required
  • Floating is required to all areas as helping hands, PCU for full patient load, MS for full patient assignment, and some ER holds/boarding; travelers are floated first
  • No on-call or standby requirement
  • Epic EMR is used
Requirements
  • Active ND or Compact (NLC) RN license โ€” must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses are not accepted
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications are not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • PCU experience is required
  • Ability to independently read and interpret cardiac/telemetry strips is required
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
  • Candidates may not be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) directly by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
  • More of a telemetry/cardiac-focused unit with PCU overflow capability
  • Epic experience is preferred but not required
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Orientation consists of two 12-hour shifts (Friday and Saturday of the first week); travelers are expected to be independent by that Sunday
  • Any color scrubs are acceptable
  • RTO of 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract must be requested upfront; additional RTO will not be approved
  • A manager interview is required as part of the selection process
