Integration & Commissioning Technician (C4/ Axxess Zigbee Networks)

Location: Kelowna, BC

 About the Role

Axxess Industries is seeking a highly capable Integration & Commissioning Technician to support the deployment, configuration, troubleshooting, and customer support of our C4/Axxess Zigbee network solutions and Axxess control products. The role combines handson technical work, customer interaction, documentation, and commissioning support for both remote and onsite installations.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys problem solving, working with embedded devices and networks, and supporting customers through successful system deployments.

Responsibilities

System Integration & Commissioning

  • Prepare on-site servers, system templates, and Control4 (C4) templates prior to commissioning.
  • Work with installers to commission sites remotely; travel to customer sites as required.
  • Configure and verify Axxess wireless keypads, Zigbee devices.
  • Validate Zigbee mesh performance, device pairing, communication quality, and overall network stability.
  • Follow internal documentation standards when configuring systems or making configuration changes.

Troubleshooting & Technical Work

  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, and firmware issues for Zigbee networks and Axxess devices.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical problems both remotely and on-site.
  • Use network and RF diagnostic tools to evaluate signal strength, routing, and device behavior.
  • Replicate field issues in the lab when required and escalate to Engineering when appropriate.

Customer Support (Email & Phone)

  • Provide Tier customer support via email and phone for commissioning, configuration, and troubleshooting.
  • Deliver excellent customer service through clear communication and thorough problem resolution.
  • Record support cases accurately and maintain organized documentation of customer interactions.

Documentation & Reporting

Document commissioning progress, device configurations, network setups, and final project completion.

  • Create or revise commissioning guides, integration notes, templates, and troubleshooting workflows.
  • Provide training to end users for Axxess systems when needed.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Assist Technical Support with escalated customer issues.
  • Support Engineering with firmware testing, feature validation, and field issue replication.
  • Coordinate with Production when needed to verify radio boards, keypad functionality, or network-enabled hardware.

Other Duties

  • Complete additional tasks requested by the department or project management.
  • Must be able to work on-demand weekends when customer deployments or support situations require it.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent technical communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Experience with technical writing and documenting workflows or system behaviors.
  • Comfortable speaking with customers over the phone.
  • Ability to read and understand technical documents, system diagrams, and wiring diagrams.
  • Basic understanding of networking (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP).
  • Familiarity with Windows and/or embedded systems environments.
  • Able to lift 20+ lbs as needed for equipment handling.

 Nice to Have

  • Software development experience (can be made required depending on direction).
  • Experience with Linux systems.
  • Ability to speak a second language.
  • Experience with Zigbee, RF networks, embedded systems, or IoT hardware.
  • Familiarity with Control4 (C4) and Digi systems (recommended for internal candidates).

 Ideal Candidate Qualities

  • Detail-oriented, organized, and methodical in troubleshooting.
  • Strong customer focus and comfortable providing support via phone and email.
  • Able to work independently while collaborating effectively with Engineering, Support, and Install teams.
  • Comfortable working in lab, field, and production environments.
  • Flexible and able to adapt to changing project needs, including on-demand weekend work.
