Gross Annual Base Salary: USD 75,000 - 97,500

Additional variable compensation and benefits may apply. Total compensation is based on experience, skills, and location using objective, job-related criteria.

Summary

The SysOps Engineer position focuses on the operations and high availability of our customer environments, including but not limited to provisioning, maintaining, performance monitoring/management, and disaster recovery. This role also serves as a technical escalation point for customer support requests. In this role, you are expected to prioritize uptime, security, and performance of the customer environments over all other activities. You also must be able to work well individually as well as part of a team to ensure tasks are managed efficiently, enabling seamless integration of operations throughout various locations and time zones. A blended passion for technology, knowledge growth, collaboration, and customer success is what makes a person successful in this role.

** This position will have a requirement to work weekends, so we have coverage for our global customer base. The shift would be Friday through Monday 7am-6pm ET. **

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver customer environment implementation and software configuration within 24 hours lead time.
  • Drive operational outcomes aligned to department SLA, cost, and automation targets.
  • Perform environment updates, migrations, and software upgrades.
  • Monitor customer environments using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and alerting systems to proactively detect and resolve availability issues.
  • Own day-to-day service reliability against defined SLOs by monitoring key operational metrics, responding to alerts, and contributing to availability targets.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and process improvement.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and respond to production incidents, performing root cause analysis, and implementing preventive measures.
  • Communicate effectively during incidents and contribute to post-incident reviews, including clear written summaries for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Identify and act on cost optimization opportunities in Azure, contributing to department FinOps and unit economic goals.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and technical support, maintaining high satisfaction levels.

Secondary responsibilities

  • Participate in service design discussions to ensure downstream operational processes are developed for service transition and enablement prior to deployment.
  • Update technical documentation, workflows, and knowledge base articles.
  • Identify areas of improvement in operational and security posture through trend analysis.
  • Execute changes necessary for maintaining compliance certification.
  • Provide support for internal infrastructure projects, ensuring seamless execution and integration.

Required Education and Experience

  • BS/BA in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 3-5 years cloud operations and infrastructure engineering experience.
  • Certifications: AZ-104 Azure Administrator or demonstrate equivalent Azure administration competency.
  • Experience managing patching and patch management processes across Microsoft Azure environments.
  • Experience supporting government cloud environments or government-sector clients.
  • Experience with the following technologies, tools, and concepts:
    • Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
    • Microsoft Windows Server 2022, IIS, Microsoft SQL Server.
    • Automating processes using PowerShell, Azure PowerShell Modules, REST APIs, Terraform or ARM Templates.
    • Exposure/experience with orchestration tools (Terraform, ArgoCD, Ansible, Kubernetes platforms, Azure Pipelines).
    • Identity management using Azure Entra ID, Okta, OpenID Connect, SAML.
    • Experience with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude, Cursor, GitHub Copilot), including the ability to evaluate, validate, and operationalize generated outputs.
    • Familiarity of highavailability application architectures using traffic management and loadbalancing strategies to ensure resilience, fault tolerance, and minimal service disruption.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Foundational knowledge of cloud platform (Preferably Microsoft Azure).
  • Experience in analysis, implementation, and evaluation of IT systems and their specifications.
  • Sound understanding of infrastructure concepts: networking, operating systems, and security.
  • Working knowledge of Compliance frameworks, policy development, and implementation.
