Weekend Data Migration information

What are some common challenges faced during weekend data migration projects, and how can I prepare for them?

Weekend data migration roles often involve tight timelines and the need to minimize downtime for critical business systems. Common challenges include unexpected data compatibility issues, managing large volumes of data within limited windows, and coordinating across IT teams to ensure a smooth transition. To prepare, it's important to thoroughly review migration plans, communicate clearly with stakeholders, and have contingency strategies for potential setbacks. Familiarity with data migration tools and strong troubleshooting skills can help you address issues quickly and keep the project on track.

What is the difference between Weekend Data Migration vs Weekend Data Analyst?

AspectWeekend Data MigrationWeekend Data Analyst
Required CredentialsData management certifications, SQL, ETL toolsData analysis certifications, Excel, SQL
Work EnvironmentIT teams, data centers, migration projectsBusiness units, reporting environments, analytics projects
Industry UsageIT, data management, software companiesMarketing, finance, retail, business intelligence

Weekend Data Migration focuses on transferring and updating data systems, requiring technical skills in data management and ETL tools. Weekend Data Analyst interprets data to provide insights, emphasizing analytical skills and reporting. Both roles may work during weekends but serve different functions within data projects.

What is a weekend data migration?

A Weekend Data Migration job involves transferring data from one system or platform to another during weekends to minimize disruption to regular business operations. Professionals in this role are responsible for planning, executing, and verifying data migrations, ensuring data integrity and security throughout the process. These jobs often require expertise in database management, data mapping, and troubleshooting. Weekend shifts are common because system downtime is less likely to impact business activities during these periods.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend data migration specialist?

To thrive as a Weekend Data Migration Specialist, you need expertise in database management, data mapping, and experience with data migration processes, often supported by a degree in computer science or related field. Familiarity with ETL tools, SQL, and systems like Oracle, SAP, or Microsoft Azure is typically required, and relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer can be advantageous. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are essential soft skills for coordinating with teams and troubleshooting issues under tight timelines. These skills ensure data integrity, minimize downtime, and enable smooth system transitions during critical weekend migration windows.

Job description

SR. BIM SPECIALIST

Building on the rapid advancement of the Starlink program, we are moving into a new phase of facility and infrastructure growth. We are currently seeking a Sr. BIM Specialist to lead the integration and coordination of Building Information Modeling (BIM) across fast-paced multidisciplinary projects, ensuring project objectives are met through effective model management and collaboration. This position will serve as a key technical resource, supporting project teams and fostering strong BIM practices throughout the project lifecycle.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and maintain detailed 3D BIM models using industry-standard software (Revit, Navisworks, AutoCad) for architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), and other engineering disciplines
  • Perform clash detection, model coordination, and constructability reviews to identify and resolve conflicts early in the design and construction phases
  • Lead BIM coordination efforts for multi-disciplinary projects, ensuring the seamless integration of models and data. Specifically, this will be a mix of in-house processes/elements and external design consultants throughout the whole project lifecycle
  • Collaborate closely with project stakeholders to establish and maintain BIM standards, protocols, and workflows
  • Act as the primary BIM resource for team members, internal customers and external design consultants, addressing technical issues and optimizing BIM processes for project success
  • Work with with the design and construction teams to keep a living model that will culminate in an as-built of the facility at hand
  • Lead the transition of BIM workflows from third-party providers to in-house operations, including data migration, process documentation, and training of team members
  • Generate accurate construction documentation, quantity takeoffs, and visualizations to support project bidding, procurement, and on-site execution
  • Troubleshoot technical issues in BIM environments and recommend software/tools/process improvements to enhance efficiency
  • Participate in cross-functional meetings, providing BIM expertise to inform design decisions and mitigate risks

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering or construction management
  • 6+ years of hands-on experience as a BIM specialist or Modeler in a construction or engineering environment

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 8+ years of professional experience in BIM coordination, with multidisciplinary experience on high rise projects
  • Experience modeling multiple disciplines (e.g., architecture, structural, MEP).
  • Exposure to high rise construction projects is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will have owned BIM coordination through construction administration on multiple large scale projects and have a solid understanding of means and methods of construction
  • Experience in aerospace, high-tech manufacturing, or mission-critical facilities projects.
  • Proficiency in BIM authoring and coordination tools, including Revit (advanced level), Navisworks, and related plugins; familiarity with Dynamo or similar scripting for automation.
  • Strong understanding of interdisciplinary coordination workflows, clash detection, and federated modeling in large-scale projects.
  • Demonstrated expertise in architectural, engineering or MEP-focused BIM workflows, with the ability to drive project success through effective model coordination and communication.
  • Certification in BIM (e.g., Autodesk Certified Professional in Revit for Architectural Design/Structure/MEP, or AGC BIM Certificate).
  • Knowledge of advanced BIM integrations, such as reality capture (e.g., laser scanning with Trimble or Leica), VR/AR visualizations, or cloud-based collaboration platforms (e.g., Autodesk BIM 360/ACC).
  • Design experience in architecture, engineering or a related field
  • Familiarity with structural analysis tools and integration of BIM data for structural engineering applications.
  • Experience with Siemens NX

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be available to work extended hours and weekends when needed, based on site operational needs; flexibility is required
  • Occasional travel may be required based on specific projects; travel requirement is up to 15%
