Your Specific Responsibilities:
Direct Nursing Services/Case Management:
The incumbent is part of a global public health organization and is expected to support the Florida Department of Health in Monroe County in its mission to protect, promote and improve the health of all people in Florida through integrated state, county and community efforts and its vision to be the Healthiest State in the Nation. Furthermore, the incumbent is expected to incorporate the agency values of Innovation, Collaboration, Accountability, Responsiveness and Excellence in all aspects of their work.
The RN Specialist in this position will provide public health nursing services. The incumbent will obtain and record nursing assessments, medical and social histories; perform and interpret appropriate laboratory tests. The incumbent will treat patients according to standing orders and will make appropriate referrals. The RN Specialist provides individualized instruction related to illness, medications, vaccines, and general wellness; provides education to promote healthy lifestyles and will also assist physicians and ARNP's as requested. The incumbent also responds to reportable disease reports. In addition, this individual will provide comprehensive medical case management services and support services. This position provides childhood and adult immunizations. This position may require travel to other DOH Clinical sites in Monroe County based on agency need.
Direct Nursing Services / Case Management:
The incumbent will evaluate clients in a variety of settings within the scope of Florida State and Federal guidelines, and Florida Department of Health in Monroe County policies, and the Nurse Practice Act. Services will be performed and documented accurately utilizing designated electronic medical records and established policies and procedures. Follows Florida Department of Health in Monroe County policies and procedures, including standing orders. Performs within the guidelines and standards of the Florida Nurse Practice Act.

  • Provides direct services to clients in all DOH Monroe programs including: HIV, Adult Health, Labs, Family Planning, STD, TB, Refugee Health, Hepatitis PReP, and Immunization. Will assist with the administration of ordered medications, pregnancy testing, tuberculosis testing and other testing or services which fall within the nursing scope of practice
  • Utilizes nursing skills of interview, observation and evaluation to determine the medical, social and psychological needs of client/family/community and provides interventions as needed
  • Counsels clients/family/community in basic health promotion and risk behaviors, including but not limited to: communicable disease control, maternal and child health, family planning, nutrition, growth and development, safety and anticipatory guidance
  • Offers education and information on family planning methods and services in the most efficient and effective manner
  • Advises and counsels client on health promotion, STD & HIV risk reduction, and care and management of disease
  • Provides case management to established or referred clients in need of nursing intervention, makes appropriate referrals, and then evaluates the effectiveness of this intervention
  • Assists nursing supervisor with clinic management, monitoring clinic flow and caseload, and communicating with immediate supervisor or center manager regarding significant or critical issues that could affect the division, department, or client services
  • Demonstrates willingness to cross train and increase competency in clinics as needed
  • Responds promptly to emergency situations and informs supervisors of significant or critical issues that may affect the division or department
  • Completes assignments and functions independently, seeks assistance from supervisor as needed
  • Assists examiners as needed
  • Assists in review of electronic laboratory results and provides follow-up and case management following Florida Department of Health in Monroe Local Policy
  • Complies with HIPAA guidelines Performs duties as described in the Florida Department of Health's Information Security policies, Protocols and Procedures, ensuring client information is secure 100% of the time
General:
  • Completes EARS, Timesheets, and People First Entries within mandatory time frames
  • Schedules time off in advance and collaborates with nursing supervisors to ensure work responsibilities are covered when absent
  • Complies with SMART expectations related to position
  • Communicates, collaborates, and assists other professionals and paraprofessionals in other units within the agency (Examples: health fairs, immunization outreaches, disaster support)
  • Attends and participates in quality improvement activities, including medical record review, in-service programs, and staff meetings
  • Obtains all Florida Department of Health in Monroe County and Florida Department of Health as required yearly training
Other duties as assigned:

Qualifications:
  • Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464 or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 210-8.27
  • Position requires a valid Florida Driver's License and access to private transportation
  • Must maintain active Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association and provide evidence of completion bi-annually. Employees are responsible for maintaining BLS at their own expense
