Job description

Position Summary

The Middle School Boys Basketball Head Coach is responsible for leading the Middle School Boys Basketball program in a way that develops student-athletes spiritually, academically, socially, and athletically. This role focuses on teaching fundamentals, building a positive team culture, preparing athletes for future participation in the high school basketball program, and creating a Christ-centered environment where middle school athletes can grow in confidence, skill, discipline, and character.

The head coach serves as the primary leader of the middle school team and is responsible for planning practices, coaching games, communicating with families, supervising athletes, and working in alignment with the mission and values of Liberty Christian Academy.

Key ResponsibilitiesProgram Leadership and Alignment
  • Lead and implement the vision, expectations, and structure of the Middle School Boys Basketball program in alignment with LCA Athletics and the broader boys basketball program.
  • Establish consistent terminology, fundamentals, team expectations, and program culture.
  • Create a positive, teamfirst environment that encourages growth, effort, accountability, and sportsmanship.
  • Support longterm athlete development and help prepare students for future participation in the high school basketball program.
  • Provide leadership and direction to assistant coaches, volunteers, and other team personnel as applicable.
  • Coaching and Instruction
  • Plan and lead structured, developmentfocused practices that emphasize fundamentals, effort, teamwork, and game understanding.
  • Teach basketball skills, offensive and defensive concepts, sportsmanship, and competitive habits appropriate for the middle school level.
  • Coach games in a manner that prioritizes development, competitiveness, teamwork, and Christcentered leadership.
  • Provide clear, constructive feedback to help athletes improve individually and as a team.
  • Help athletes develop confidence, discipline, coachability, toughness, and a stronger understanding of the game.
  • Player Development and Evaluation
  • Evaluate athlete progress and identify areas for individual and team improvement.
  • Encourage growth in skill development, basketball IQ, effort, toughness, teamwork, and leadership.
  • Reinforce accountability, sportsmanship, commitment, and positive team behavior.
  • Create an environment where athletes feel challenged, supported, and encouraged.
  • Help studentathletes understand the connection between preparation, effort, attitude, and team success.
  • Administrative Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with the Athletic Department regarding scheduling, communication, equipment, uniforms, transportation expectations, and team logistics.
  • Ensure compliance with OHSAA regulations, school policies, and Athletic Department expectations.
  • Communicate clearly, professionally, and appropriately with parents, athletes, school staff, and the Athletic Department.
  • Supervise athletes before, during, and after practices and games.
  • Attend required coaches meetings, trainings, and program events as directed by the Athletic Department.
  • Spiritual and Character Development
  • Support the school’s Christian mission through coaching, communication, and leadership.
  • Model Christcentered behavior and encourage spiritual and personal growth among studentathletes.
  • Use basketball as a platform to develop character, humility, discipline, resilience, teamwork, and servant leadership.
  • Encourage athletes to represent Liberty Christian Academy with excellence, respect, and integrity.
  • Qualifications
  • Coaching or playing experience in basketball, preferably at the middle school, youth, high school, AAU, or competitive youth level.
  • Strong teaching mindset with a focus on athlete development, encouragement, and accountability.
  • Effective communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the Athletic Department and broader basketball program leadership.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Liberty Christian Academy.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior head coaching experience at the youth, middle school, or high school level.
  • Current Pupil Activity Permit or willingness to obtain one.
  • Experience working with middle school athletes in a developmental sports environment.
  • Ability to lead assistant coaches, organize practices, manage game responsibilities, and communicate effectively with families.
