Job description

About the Role:
An Underground Fiber Puller / General Laborer supports outside plant telecom construction crews by assisting with the installation of underground fiber optic and conduit systems. This role involves physically demanding outdoor work including trenching support, conduit placement, cable pulling, and jobsite preparation. Laborers work alongside directional drill operators, linemen, and fiber splicers to help complete underground telecom infrastructure projects safely and efficiently.
Specific Responsibilities:
  • General Labor duties site cleanup, traffic control, unpacking boxes, lifting heavy items.
  • Load, unload, stage, and organize materials and equipment on active construction sites.
  • Assist with trenching, backfilling, and restoration activities as needed.
  • Work around directional drill crews during bore operations.
  • Feed and guide cable into conduit during pull operations.
  • Use hand tools and basic power tools safely and effectively.
  • Assist with setting up traffic control devices and maintaining safe work zones.
  • Work in and around trenches, vaults, and confined spaces when required.
  • Follow utility locating markings and maintain safe distances from existing underground utilities.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas.
  • Perform physically demanding tasks including lifting 50 to 75 pounds, bending, kneeling, digging, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Follow all OSHA safety standards and jobsite safety protocols.
  • Valid driver’s license preferred. Experience on telecom, utility, or underground construction sites is a strong plus.
Required Qualifications:
  • Reliable transportation and ability to report to the jobsite on time daily.
  • Valid driver’s license if required for the role.
  • Full PPE including hard hat, safety vest, steel toe boots, gloves, and safety glasses.
  • Basic hand tools and trade specific tools as required.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including lifting up to 50 pounds and standing, bending, kneeling, and climbing for extended periods.
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and OSHA guidelines.
  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to take direction.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, or extended shifts as needed.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred
  • Ability to work in secure or badge access environments.
