Weekend Cleaning information

What is weekend cleaning?

Weekend cleaning jobs involve performing cleaning duties in homes, offices, or commercial spaces specifically on weekends. These roles typically include tasks like vacuuming, dusting, mopping floors, sanitizing restrooms, and removing trash. Weekend cleaners may work independently or as part of a team and are often hired to ensure that spaces remain tidy and hygienic for the upcoming week. The hours are usually part-time and may vary depending on the employer's needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend cleaner?

To thrive as a Weekend Cleaner, you need a strong attention to detail, knowledge of cleaning procedures, and, in some cases, basic health and safety training. Familiarity with cleaning equipment, chemical handling, and sometimes safety certifications like OSHA are typically required. Reliability, time management, and the ability to work independently are valuable soft skills for this role. These qualities ensure workspaces are consistently clean, safe, and meet hygiene standards, even during off-peak hours.

What are some common challenges faced in a weekend cleaning role, and how can they be managed?

Weekend cleaning roles often involve working independently or with a small team to complete a high volume of tasks within a limited timeframe, as many businesses use weekends for deep cleaning. Challenges can include handling unexpected messes, prioritizing urgent areas, and adapting to last-minute schedule changes. Effective time management, clear communication with supervisors, and maintaining flexibility are essential for success. Many cleaners find that developing a consistent routine and using checklists can help ensure all tasks are completed thoroughly and efficiently.

House Cleaning Technician (Full-Time, Daytime)
Paid Training + Mentorship | Clear Growth Path to Lead | Steady Daytime Hours
Pay: $17.00 - $21.00 per hour plus tips
House Cleaning Technician
Base Pay: $17/hour, earned from day one, including during paid training. Plus Tips.
Most full-time technicians earn $19 to $21/hour plus tips as their hours and performance grow, with the opportunity to earn more through additional certifications, specialized skills, and leadership roles.
About HandiMaids
HandiMaids has proudly served the Richmond area since 1983. We are a long-standing, family-owned company with deep roots in the community.
Our focus is simple: take great care of our people so they can take great care of our clients. We believe in clear expectations, fair pay, and treating one another with respect. This is a workplace where team members are known, supported, and valued.
We are growing, and we are looking to add a new technician to the team. If you want a place that invests in you and gives you a real path forward, keep reading.
About the Role
This is a full-time, daytime residential cleaning position with a steady, predictable schedule.
  • Your core schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, with your evenings free
  • No required weekends. When optional weekend jobs come up, such as short-notice cleans and vacation rental turnovers, they pay time and a half (1.5x) and you can take them or pass.
If picking up an occasional weekend shift at a premium rate appeals to you, let us know. If you prefer a strict Monday-through-Friday schedule, that works too.
This role includes a paid training and mentorship period, fully paid at your base rate. Your pay grows from there as you build consistent hours and prove yourself.
How We Train You
We train differently than most cleaning companies, and it shows. Your training is fully paid, and instead of being left to figure it out alone, you are supported by the whole team. Our crew will tell you it is one of the best parts of working here, and it is a big reason our team is so strong and our work stays so consistent.
We are also looking for people we can grow into Lead roles, which come with additional pay. If you are reliable, coachable, and want to advance, we want to hear from you.
What You Will Be Doing
You will clean and care for our clients' homes using a consistent system, with training and support from our team.
Typical duties include:
  • Cleaning kitchens and bathrooms (sinks, counters, toilets, tubs/showers, mirrors)
  • Dusting and wiping surfaces (furniture, doors, light touchpoints, baseboards as needed)
  • Vacuuming and mopping floors
  • Making beds and tidying common areas
  • Taking out trash and replacing liners as needed
  • Restocking and maintaining your cleaning kit and supplies
  • Following our checklist process to ensure quality and consistency
  • Communicating professionally with the office and, when needed, clients
Most of our work is residential recurring cleans and occasional deep cleans, with additional earning opportunities for certified services. We also serve a small number of light commercial clients, such as doctor offices. These are held to the same high-end standard as our home cleans and are not janitorial work. If that kind of work interests you, it can be an option down the road.
What You Will Earn
  • $17/hour to start, with most full-time technicians earning $19 to $21/hour plus tips within their first 6 months
  • Tips on top of your hourly pay
  • Time and a half on optional weekend work when it comes up
  • Room to earn more through certifications, specialized services, and lead roles
  • Paid weekly by direct deposit, plus health, dental, vision, and paid time off
Your training is fully paid, and your pay grows right along with your skills and consistency.
Mileage Reimbursement
We reimburse mileage for travel between homes at $0.70 per mile. Your drive time between jobs is not money out of your pocket.
Why People Stay With Us
  • Supportive, drama-free, family-style culture
  • You start your day from home once trained

  • Want stable, full-time daytime work
  • Take pride in doing things the right way

Requirements
  • Available Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm
  • Valid driver's license and insured vehicle
  • Smartphone for daily scheduling app
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs, bend, kneel, and stay active
  • Pass background check and drug screening
