Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced CVOR Registered Nurse (RN) to join our surgical team at UHS Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City, NY, for a 13-week contract. The CVOR RN will primarily act as the circulating nurse (and scrub when needed) for complex adult cardiothoracic surgical procedures, ensuring patient safety, strict sterile field compliance, and seamless intraoperative care.

Days (M–F) | 40 hours/week (5x8s or 4x10s; typically 6:00 AM / 7:00 AM start)
Call Requirements
Up to 3 call shifts/week (8–16 hrs) | 1 working weekend per 4 weeks (with call)
Required License & Certs
Active NYS RN License, AHA BLS (ACLS/CNOR preferred)
Core Responsibilities
- Intraoperative Nursing Care: Serve as the primary Circulating RN for high-acuity cardiothoracic procedures, managing patient positioning, surgical prep, specimen collection, and intraoperative documentation in EPIC.
- Procedure Coverage: Provide expert perioperative nursing care for cases including CABG, Valve Replacements/Repairs, VATS (Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery), and Robotic Chest Procedures.
- Multidisciplinary Coordination: Collaborate seamlessly with cardiothoracic surgeons, perfusionists, anesthesia providers, and surgical technologists to maintain sterile field integrity and optimize patient outcomes.
- Patient Safety & Advocacy: Conduct surgical time-outs, monitor hemodynamics, manage blood product administration, and oversee instrument/sponge counts per facility protocols.
- Emergency & On-Call Response: Provide rapid response circulating coverage for emergent open-heart and thoracic surgical cases during assigned call shifts.
Candidate QualificationsRequired:
- Licensure: Active New York State Registered Nurse (RN) License.
- Certifications: Active AHA BLS (Basic Life Support).
- Clinical Experience: Minimum 1–3 years of acute care RN experience with direct CVOR / Cardiothoracic circulating experience.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with EPIC EHR software.
Preferred:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or CNOR certification.
- Experience with both circulating and scrubbing open-heart and robotic thoracic cases.
