Job description

We are currently hiring a Vehicle Electronics Technician for our New Britain, CT location!

  • Hourly Rate: $24-32/hr
  • Schedule:
    • Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm
    • Position may require flexible shifts (weekends, overtime, and/or nights).

Responsibilities:

  • Reports to Director of Fleet Maintenance as well as works in coordination with shop foreman and terminal managers.
  • Install, troubleshoot, and repair 12 volt and 24-volt electronics (cameras, GPS tracking, telematics, 2-way radios, people counters, fareboxes, etc.) on DATTCO and/or customer vehicles.
  • Accurately record and report information regarding installs/repairs.
  • Fields tickets with internal ticket system for repairs and inspections.
  • Maintains the proper hand tools to perform job functions.
  • Responsible for ordering and controlling inventory levels.

Requirements:

License + Certifications:

  • Valid Driver’s License.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience installing, diagnosing, and repairing 12-volt and/or 24-volt vehicle electrical and electronic systems.
    • This position focuses on the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of vehicle mounted electronic equipment and requires hands on work in and around commercial vehicles. Experience limited solely to information technology, networking, software support, or desktop support environments is not considered equivalent experience.
  • Experience with aftermarket vehicle equipment such as GPS tracking devices, cameras, telematics systems, mobile DVRs, two-way radios, fare collection systems, Wi-Fi equipment, or similar technologies.
  • Experience reading wiring diagrams, troubleshooting electrical circuits, and using multimeters and other diagnostic equipment.
  • Experience working on commercial vehicles, buses, trucks, emergency vehicles, heavy equipment, or automotive fleets preferred.
  • Experience routing wiring, terminating connections, mounting equipment, and performing clean, professional installations.
  • School bus, motorcoach, fleet maintenance, or transportation industry experience preferred.

Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must possess excellent computer skills.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment.
  • Must be a self starter.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, climb, reach, twist, stand, walk, and work in and around vehicles for extended periods.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop equipment safely.
