- Prior experience as a school bus driver preferred
- Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance and safety procedures
- Ability to work with children and maintain discipline on the bus
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work up to 5 hours per day
Position Description:
As a Detroit Academy of Arts and Sciences School Bus Driver, you will share a commitment to ensuring that every child is transported safely to and from school, home, and special events such as field trips.
Terms of Employment: Part time, up to 25 hours per week
Note: The job description is subject to change to meet the needs of the school and comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a school bus and transport students to and from school and other educational or recreational activities following a scheduled route and timetable
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all students during transport, including assisting students in boarding and exiting the bus and maintaining order among students while on the bus
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus, including checking the tires, brakes, lights, fuel, and oil levels, and report any issues or concerns to the transportation supervisor
- Handle emergencies or unforeseen situations calmly and effectively, including administering basic first aid if necessary, and following established emergency procedures
- Adhere to all traffic and safety regulations as well as state and federal laws governing the operation of a school bus
- Maintain a professional relationship with supervisors, staff, parents, students and the public
- Present a professional and courteous demeanor at all times, serving as a positive role model for students and demonstrating respect for diversity and inclusivity
- Possess physical ability to perform all required work
- Work independently and in teams to complete job duties and assignments in a timely manner
