The Research Technician in the Microbiology Product Research and Development team is responsible for innovating, developing, and validating, novel food safety solutions and supporting existing products across Neogen's Microbiology portfolio. This role applies scientific knowledge to develop microbiological-based products for food safety applications. The Research Technician prepares reagents, conducts experiments, analyzes data, and supports cross-functional teams to ensure successful project outcomes.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Conducts experimental testing of product performance at multiple stages of production.

  • Orders necessary materials to ensuretimelycompletion of projects andensuresthat all purchases are coded to theappropriate projectbudget.

  • Prepares all reagents necessary for experimentation.

  • Records experimental results, analyzes data, and provides summaries of results to senior team members for review and collaborative planning of future experimental paths.

  • Maintainsappropriate documentationof experimental data/observations in electronic files and electronic laboratory notebooks.

  • Maintains laboratory equipment and equipment records, including pH meters, incubators, and other laboratory instrumentsin compliance with 5S/GLPstandards.

  • Assistssenior team membersin troubleshooting commercialized product performance.

  • Develops a working knowledge of products and processes.

Education and/or Experience:

Basicqualifications: BS degree inMicrobiology,Biochemistry, Chemistry,BiologicalScienceor related field.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Twotofouryears of research and/or laboratory experience, with a focus on executing experimental plans, preparing reagents,recordingand analyzing data, and creating data summaries.
  • Knowledgeof foodborne pathogens and spoilage organisms,and common microbiological culture media or diagnostic methods.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules,operatingand maintenance instructions and procedural documents. Ability towriteroutine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before employees orgroupin the organization.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform routine, college-level mathematical operations.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have some knowledge of Microsoft Office software, such as PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook,OneDrive,and Teams,as well as the ability to effectively communicate electronically.
