Job description

Description

Accounting Manager – Construction Des Moines, IA | The Waldinger Corporation

The Waldinger Corporation is looking for an Accounting Manager – Construction to lead the accounting operations behind our construction business line. This isn't a back-office reporting role — you'll be embedded in the day-to-day financial engine of active construction projects: job costing, billings, payables, and working capital, all while mentoring a team and partnering directly with project and operations leadership.

If you love the operational side of accounting — tracking real project economics, catching issues before they become problems, and keeping cash flow healthy on complex jobs — this is your seat.

What You'll Own:

  • Operational Accounting Leadership — Drive billing and accounts payable processing for the construction business line, ensuring job estimates, contracts, and change orders are entered accurately and on time.
  • Month-End Ownership — Lead the monthly job closure process, partner with corporate on financial questions, and guide your team through department reviews.
  • Forecasting & Planning — Own the monthly forecast process across assigned construction operating units, giving leadership a real-time read on project performance.
  • Budget Partnership — Play a key role in the year-end budgeting cycle alongside senior leadership.
  • Working Capital Management — Protect the financial health of every project: run credit checks on clients and prospects, monitor over/under billings, and help manage inventory carrying costs.
  • Team Leadership — Supervise, coach, and grow a construction accounting team, building a strong bench for the future.

What You Bring:

  • 5–7 years of accounting experience (construction or project-based accounting a plus)
  • Associate's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • A sharp eye for detail and comfort managing multiple active projects at once
  • Willingness for occasional travel

Why You'll Want to Stay:

  • Real advancement — this role reports into a team with a clear path for growth at a stable, established company
  • Continuing education and tuition reimbursement to keep building your expertise
  • 401(k) with company match and profit-sharing
  • Full health, dental, and vision coverage
  • Paid holidays and paid vacation
  • Health club reimbursement + a wellness plan with lifestyle spending account
  • Term, AD&D, and dependent life insurance
  • Prepaid legal services

The Waldinger Corporation is an Equal Opportunity Employer, including disability/veterans, and participates in E-Verify.
