Job Description
Position Summary:
Provide athletic training services in support of intercollegiate athletics programs as assigned. Work in collaboration with clinical faculty/athletic trainers in the athletic training education program and other staff athletic trainers to provide athletic training services to intercollegiate athletics. Evaluate and treat injuries and potential injuries. Develop and administer injury prevention, treatment plans and rehabilitation programs for student-athletes. Counsel and advise student-athletes on conditioning and athletic training matters. Attend home practices and games for assigned sports teams; travel to contests during the regular season and post-season for assigned teams is required.
Supervision:
  • Reports to Assistant Director, Sports Medicine
  • May provide clinical instruction and day-to-day guidance to graduate students in the Athletic Training Education Program

Job Responsibilities:
Clinical Care and Injury Management
  • Provide athletic training services under the supervision of the team physician, including evaluating, managing, treating, and rehabilitating athletic injuries as needed or prescribed.
  • Provide prompt and accurate triage.
  • Develop and administer injury prevention, treatment plans, and rehabilitation programs.

Program Support
  • Staff the Hill Center Athletic Training Clinic or A&E Center Clinic.
  • Attend home practices and games for assigned sports teams to evaluate and treat injuries or potential injuries
  • Travel with assigned teams during regular and post-season.
  • Serve as host athletic trainer for league, regional and national championships competition held at Ithaca College.

Student-Athlete Support
  • Counsel and advise student-athletes on conditioning and athletic training matters.
  • Serve as a consultant to coaching staff on conditioning, nutrition, and protective equipment.
  • Assist with injury prevention through athlete education, identifying factors, correcting deficiencies and providing taping and bracing.

Collaboration and Communication
  • Serve as liaison with parents, sports medicine physicians, health center staff, athletic trainers, and coaches in determining appropriate treatment options.
  • Assist the team physician in determining return-to- play decisions.
  • Attend introductory team meetings and present athletic training information for assigned sports.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to fostering an inclusive and respectful community; engage in practices and professional development that support diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Compliance
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records on injured athletes.
  • Obtain sports injury reports from injured athletes and forward to the insurance and referral coordinator for filing with the College athletic injury insurance plan.
  • Perform mandatory baseline concussion testing for incoming students in assigned sports.
  • Participate in all pre-participation sport screenings and the medical clearance process.

Education
  • Serve as a preceptor to graduate students in the clinical education portion of the Athletic Training Education Program.

Qualifications:
Required
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in athletic training from a CAATE-accredited program
  • Minimum of one-year athletic training experience
  • Board of Certification (BOC) Certified in athletic training in good standing
  • Current New York State licensure (or eligibility) as an Athletic Trainer
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Strong clinical reasoning, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and athletic training equipment
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality

Preferred
  • Previous collegiate athletic training experience

Work Environment:
  • Regular presence at athletic facilities, including clinics, practice fields, and competition venues
  • Ability to move across athletic facilities and respond quickly in active environments
  • Frequent standing, walking, and positioning to evaluate and treat injuries
  • Ability to lift and transport athletic training equipment and supplies
  • Evening, weekend, and travel requirements based on team schedules and operational needs
  • Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor athletic and clinical settings, with regular exposure to varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and other inclement weather

This position is 37.5 hours per week, 10 months per year.
