Primary Purpose
The athletic program at Appalachian State University operates on the premise that intercollegiate athletics is an integral part of the institution's overall program of education. Priority is given to high standards of both academic and athletic quality - the goal being the complete development of the student-athlete.
At Appalachian State University, student-athletes will be provided with the opportunity and encouraged to progress toward a degree of their choice, and the opportunity to develop athletic abilities in an environment consistent with high standards of academic scholarship, sportsmanship, leadership and institutional loyalty. The intercollegiate athlete representing ASU will be a bonafide student pursuing a degree program, as well as an amateur competitor.
Minimum Qualifications
BOC Certification
Eligible for state licensure by the State of North Carolina Board of Athletic Training
Master's degree required
One year of experience in athletic training
License/Certification Required
BOC Certification
Eligible for state licensure by the State of North Carolina Board of Athletic Training
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3 or more years of experience in Athletic Training
  • Experience in collegiate volleyball

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Assistant Athletic Trainer will cover sports as directed by the Chief Strategy Officer - responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Prevention, treatment, management, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries
  • Daily athletic training room operations
  • Coverage of events and practices for sports as assigned
  • Supervision of athletic training students
  • Administrative duties assigned by the Chief Strategy Officer
