Job description

Schedule/Hours:

Full-time, Exempt position. Schedule is flexible based on Corps, regional programming, and event needs, and will include evenings, weekends, and travel throughout the Hampton Roads Region.

This position is responsible for:
The Regional Music Coordinator organizes, develops, and coordinates music and creative arts programs for Salvation Army Corps locations within the Hampton Roads Region, including Williamsburg, Virginia Peninsula, Hampton Roads Kroc Center, Portsmouth, and Suffolk. Responsibilities include conducting rehearsals, teaching private and group lessons, developing ministry and performance opportunities, training music leaders, coordinating regional events, establishing community partnerships, supervising volunteers, and supporting Divisional Music & Arts initiatives. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and teach instrumental, vocal, and music theory instruction for individuals and groups while mentoring students and encouraging participation in Salvation Army music programs. 
  • Develop and implement Corps and regional music and arts programs, including leadership training, summer music programs, volunteer recruitment, and curriculum development. 
  • Plan and coordinate regional music and arts events, performances, recitals, outdoor ministry opportunities, and special seasonal programs. 
  • Support worship services, maintain partnerships with community arts organizations and educational institutions, and provide regular program reporting to leadership. 
  • Manage music inventories, instruments, and equipment while providing support for Corps, regional, and divisional events as assigned. 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods while leading musical groups.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
  • Ability to read and hear musical notes and perform on musical instruments. 
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds or more.
  • Work is performed primarily in a church environment, with occasional outdoor activities and flexible hours that include evenings and weekends.
